I saw this yesterday at a Costco store. The price ends in xxx.97, so I am assuming it is chain-wide clearance. Not available online. Item #1250044.

Great deal. I was shopping for a 5.1 system for my budget theater room 3 months ago. I wanted this set but $250 was cheapest anywhere (even facebook marketplace). Costco for this price is great. Would've jumped on it, but already got some cheapo yamaha set for $50 on OfferUp. Does the job.

Update: None in stock around me it seems, so pretty YMMV. FYI -- I use instacart (with different addresses) to check the 4 stores around me. I can't say for sure if Instacart is accurate but I've used it in the past to find which Costco near me had the 7.1 receiver on clearance and which didn't back a few months ago. It worked then.

yes. But if you got it at this price, it would be worth it.

I reached out to a friend in the industry when Costco first had these at $300 (about 2 years ago). He said that the speakers were 5+ year old technology, and the cheapest he could get them for when they initially hit the market was $600. I wonder what the price history of the speakers would be if you could go back to their initial release.

I ended up getting my set off ebay for $300 2 years ago; they kick butt in my 12'x12' living room (ceiling mounted with center below the tv).

Says the subwoofer is wireless. So how do I connect this 5.1 system to the receiver? How many physical wire connections are needed?

You will need:
  • FIVE speaker wire connections from the receiver to the FR+FL+C+RR+RL speakers.
  • Then you'll need to plug in the subwoofer's wireless transmitter into an electric outlet near the receiver (and the transmitter's audio wire dongle into the receiver).
  • Then you will need to plug in the subwoofer into an electric outlet (no audio cable to the receiver).
To be honest, if I were placing the subwoofer near the receiver, I would forego the wireless connection and just run an RCA cable from the receiver's LFE/subwoofer out to the RCA input jack on the receiver subwoofer. I believe the subwoofer provides that option.

Good advice.

Yes. All speakers set needs receiver unless it's sound bar but that is entirely different.

I absolutely love this setup. Price is unreal for the sound quality. I directly wired the subwoofer. No issues. TSR-700 receiver. It would be difficult to match the performance with any sound bar.
