Microcenter continues to offer a free G.Skill Flare X5 Series 32GB (2 x 16GB) DDR5-6000 PC5-48000 CL36 Dual Channel Desktop Memory Kit with the purchase of an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X Raphael AM5 4.7GHz 12-Core Boxed Processor. But now, they're matching the prices at B&H and Amazon, and taking them down $2 further to $417.98! This is historically the cheapest this CPU has ever been offered new, and it comes with free DDR5 RAM, worth $150.

Note that Micro Center does not ship CPUs. This deal is B&M only, but you can reserve it online or in-store pickup.
Also, the Zen 4 CPUs do not come with a heatsink or cooler. So you'll want to have a pretty decent CPU cooler, since these Zen4 chips are designed to run very hot (up to 95 degrees Celsius!)

In addition, if you bundle the CPU with an AM5 motherboard, you'll save another $20. Their system doesn't apply the discount if the motherboard is open box, but you can try to get a manager to override that, if they won't, and you manage to find one you want.

Yes, the new cheaper non-x versions are out. But with this sale, the non-x 7900 is $12 more! If you want the power savings and efficiency that the non-x versions provide, you can set this CPU to ECO mode in your motherboard's bios, at a small performance cost.

Also, yes, the 7900x3d is coming out in a month, with improved gaming performance in some games, but they haven't yet announced the price, and industry experts expect that they'll be priced at $600-700. So, basically, you'll get a 15-30% performance boost in SOME games for 50% more money than this deal, and likely with no free RAM.

The CPU:

The RAM:
https://www.microcenter.com/produ...-fx5-black
Add both to your cart for a reservation for in-store pickup, and it will drop the price of the RAM to $.01. You generally have 3 days to pick up your reservation.

Some other ways to sweeten the deal:
1) Keep watching for an open box CPU on their website or in store. They generally take around 10-15% off open box CPUs. These are generally customer returns, and are tested before being put back in circulation. But if you manage to find one, reserve it quickly, since they sell out quickly. Obviously, test it as soon as you get it!

2) the Microcenter page for this product shows an ad for a free Star Wars Jedi: Survivor game. It's not mentioned anywhere else on the page, or in the cart or checkout screen. I didn't see the game or listing of a code or offer when I added it to my cart. Usually, the code is e-mailed or listed on the receipt. So, you MAY (or may not) get a code for a free game with this purchase. I'd ask a store representative or manager about this.

3) Submit a build to their Build Showcase for a $25 off coupon, with no minimum and no strings. as detailed in this thread. Note that it's currently taking a few days for them to approve the build and send the coupon. My reservation expired 3 days after I made it, and the coupon arrived the day after that! So, submit your build NOW! You can submit new builds every 30 days for a new coupon.

4) I'm not sure if they're still sending out $25 off on any CPU coupons to new customers, but it's worth a shot!

Note that the coupons generally don't work on open box items. But you can always ask a manager to see if he'll override that. No guarantees obviously.

If it's anything like the previous generation, the X3D processors will provide more fps in the majority of games.
No. Also, this CPU runs on Socket AM5. Your system board is Socket AM4, so not compatible at all.
Man, this generation of CPU and GPU launches has been a big bust for the enthusiast (outside of 13th gen Intel) from a price/perf standpoint. 5900x/RTX 3090 hold-out here. I have zero intention of upgrading this generation, but I look forward to the next one.

Which will provide more FPS in games - 7900X or i9-13900 or 7900X3D ?

Or is it dependent on specific games?

Will this give me a big boost from a 5800x3d to 7900x? Also is it compatible with Dell Alienware aurora r14 motherboard? Thanks for any replies.

Tempting, but since I'm building around a 4090, that last ~10% or so performance upgrade matters to me to not be cpu bound.

Will wait for x3d reviews, but also hopeful they extend this free ram offer to x3d chips since AM5 hasn't been selling.. Time'll tell..

Got lucky & found a FE at Best Buy at msrp, was a cancelled online order. Also opened a BB credit card that offered 10% off & 10% back in BB credit.

Don't worry, I'm still a SD'er at heart, lol. Great pick-up on your end! That'll last you.

yeah definitely wait for reviews of x3d, and pay attention to the resolution the benchmarks are on. no need to compare the differences in 1080p low/med settings if you're playing at 4k and cpus make negligible difference for the games you play.

since you have a 4090, i'm guessing you'll probably shop for a high end cpu anyway, but just my 2 cents.

dependent on games and resolution/settings. if you're playing at 4k, it'll make much less of a difference than 1080p.

also, x3d isn't out yet. though if 5800x3d teaches us anything, it'll hopefully be a nice bump over the non-x3d.

I've been unable to play games run stably with the memory EXPO settings at 6000 MHz with the Flare X5 set MC has been giving away. It's stable if I manually clock it at 5600 MHz. Hopefully the platform will be more stable as time goes on.

I doubt they'll have the ram offer with the X3D chips. They're obviously offering these on the non X3D chips so move inventory before the X3D chips release as people will stop buying or considering them.
