update!! I was able to price match via Wal-Mart after failing with Bestbuy.
Steps:
1. buy set on walmart
2. ask for a price match as Academy.com is listed as a retailer
3. tell them you are doing an in-sore pick up
4. (i did this not sure if its necessary) I found a store with them 5 states away lol and added it to my cart to show price
5. I copied and pasted that URL to Walmart
6. they price matched

Got it for $317.xx after tax and 2day shipping. WALMART

a <=80lb barbell is something people who workout use..?
seems like something you'd outgrow within a few months.

i don't workout but... 2 bags of duck food is 80lb and ain't heavy. 2 bags of chicken food is 100lb and still fine. 2 bags of large breed dog food is 140lb and gets a bit much over a long distance.
I mean I am no body builder but i consider myself in good shape or so and will say that I typically curl bat 60lbs x 12 70lbx 10 80lbs x 8......if I have really could form and complete the entire motion then i do less sets. ....so i think 80-100lbs MAX for most people should be enough if you have good form. If its the tail end of your workout then these will definitely work
for me anyway

People mainly do curls with these among other types of workouts, not just grip workouts or what someone may call those workouts "farmers carry". But yes carrying 80lb from one spot to another is pretty easy. But curling and repping 80lb could be a different story.

Was thinking of Ronnie yelling "Light weight," while reading this. Agree, the curl bar with that seems more useful then the barbell. This is for a different target audience for sure. Extremely well thought out though and wish I had an academy sports around me, they closed ours.

Depends what kind of exercises you are doing. 80 isn't much for benching or squats but it is a solid number for most other exercises. Considering a lot of people buy weights and never even use them at all I would consider outgrowing this to be a good problem. Obviously if you are a body builder or something you aren't going to buy this but if you are casual it may be ideal to actually get you working out in the first place and I support any product that encourages people to work out. It isn't ideal for everyone though.

lol, yeah, my cousin likes to yell "LIGHT WEIGHT BABY!!!" on his reps days (or whatever he calls them that day)

agreed, that's why i called out the barbell and not the curl bar. curl bar seems fine, barbell just seems like a really short-term use case.

Which stores price match for out of stock items?
I just tried doing a price match with Best Buy and they would not. Said the company (Academy) is not an authorized retailer. I told them they show as an authorized dealer on the Bowflex site, but still no dice. Maybe I will try Dick's since they are more a direct competitor than Best Buy.

Curls, upright rows, shoulder press for reps, tricep extensions, stiff leg or Romanian deadlifts for reps. Plenty of uses even at 80.

On the fence for this one, seems too light for squats, deadlifts or rows. But perfect for curls or overhead extensions.

What's the primary use for these? Cardio based workouts?
Id say the CURL bar is used for arm CURLS most likely... idk lol Smilie im jk

I tried with Best Buy, no dice. Trying Dicks now.

Best Buy didn't say anything about it being out of stock, but said Academy is not a retailer they price match with. I even told them they are listed as an authorized dealer on BowFlex site.
Okay, I was able to get it done with Dick's. Here is the rundown:

I use their online chat to initiate. I had to give them the link to Dick's listing, and Academy's. The agent then asked me if I had a different link for Academy. I assumed this was because the price does not show without adding to your cart, which you can't do because it is out of stock most places. Luckily, I just started looking up major metro area zips, and 75001 for Dallas worked. I told the agent to input that zip and it would show up. After a little they asked for a screenshot, so I provided that.

After a little "research" the agent came back and told me to call the 1800 number to process. I asked if I was going to be given a cart ID or anything, or would I be starting from scratch with a new agent, and how would I provide screenshots. They said they would provide a reference ID with all the info.

So, I started calling the 1800 number while still active in the chat awaiting the reference ID. Then the chat agent came back and said they would actually process it for me. The phone agent got disconnected randomly, so I continued with the chat, and the transaction was processed. They have a little system in the chat to enter your payment info on your own.

Total was $299.99 + tax + I paid $25 for shipping (I probably could have tried to pickup near me, but got nervous about now making it obvious that my pickup location was nowhere near the Dallas store we were price matching - that and I didn't mind not having to lug home 100+ lbs of stuff.

But you're getting it shipped, so they know your address anyway??

fare points, thanks for the insight.
guess i normally equation barbells/curl bars with folks getting big, rather than just a normal workout/exercise... dumbbells/kettlebells/bands and cardio are what i normal think of people working out/exercising. for whatever reason, that's what's stuck in my head Smilie
