Correct, you only need the filter if you are going to run the MoCA adapters over the same coax that delivers your Internet service (so not needed if you have fiber or DSL for example). Also you want to check any coax splitters in place and upgrade them if they are not at least 1GHz, I swapped to 2.3GHz ones. There are multiple frequency bands MoCA can use and go up to ~1.6GHz.
If you are wanting a wired back haul to a mesh system, and you have coax running through walls instead of CAT5/6, these are amazing. Much better than the powerline junk
You don't even need a mesh system with MoCA. I have a 2400 sq ft house and MoCA running throughout. Have the main router downstairs and an old router converted to an access point upstairs hardwired into the MoCA adapter. I get 350 mbps everywhere in my house.

Looks like same price on Amazon too.

I got a Hitron moca 2.5 a couple months ago. It's been super solid. And yes. So much better than powerline.

Apologize for the ignorance, but does this require anything else? I read something about MoCA connections requiring filters otherwise there can be signal leak. I live in a single home, so not too worried, but was wondering if adapters like these need filters for best practices, or if that's just for if you receive internet via coax from your ISP. Thanks in advance.

You should have a moca filter at the point of entry to your home, basically where the coax from the street enters your house. Usually the cable tv provider will have one installed but if not, you should install one otherwise your moca signal will "leak" out through the coax network to your neighbors where they could gain direct access to your moca network.

If your Coax cables are attached to service cable, then yes, you would would need a filter.

I've been considering this. I used to have cable internet from spectrum and my home had a coax wall plate right behind the tv which was perfect.

I signed up for ATT fiber thinking It would just use the same wall plate but unfortunately I learned it wasn't the case.

Currently using wifi to the TV which hasn't been bad. But I'm considering using this to convert from fiber adapter to coax.

Amazon matched this price, so I picked up from there (along with a cheap filter) as they had fast shipping. My powerlines give pretty good latency, but the speeds are very poor. Excited to try this out.

I'm a fan of MoCA adapters. I've had the Motorola MM1000 running for the past 3+ years with no issues, and I get 800-900 Mbps off my gig fiber service, so minimal overhead. Those are 2 for $99.99.

If you go over the $100 price point I would recommend getting MoCA 2.5 adapters. Get a bump to 2.5Gbps. This is useful if you plan to eventually run more than 2 adapters since the bandwidth is shared between them all (I'm running 4 currently). You can also get them with a 2.5GbE port.

Another endorsement for these things. They significantly outperformed powerline adapters in my house.
