This is a crazy good deal for some very trendy boots. Made in China isn't on par with the England, but cannot beat the price.
These are women's - the size is for women, M stands for standard medium width. Sizing is the same as other Dr. Martens, i.e. they don't run small or large, sizing is correct.

Note close-up of size also shows 9M, UK 8, and Euro 42. UK 8 is men's 9 and women's 10. 42 is a US men's size 9.
Also, many reviews say very hard to get foot in shoe, and very narrow
