Because that's not the same thing. Ultrasharp vs what you posted.

Another nit about this display that might be important to some folks who want to use it as a "one USB-C / Thunderbolt cable to rule them all" setup - the ethernet port is rated at 1GB, but because it shares bandwidth on the single point-of-attachment cable, will run as low as ~ 1/3 of that rated speed. Again, not a biggie for most, but may matter for some.

And as noted above, no speakers.

If you don't need ethernet in the display, and want speakers, rtings.com (great display review site) also recommends the Dell S2722QC, a USB-C 4K monitor currently $300 at Amazon:

Yes, but this feature is only available on PC. It you have a Mac, only daisy chaining with Thunderbolt is supported.
Does that mean I can daisy chain over DP or HDMI? And only connect my desktop via HDMI?

I would recommend checking a manual. But, as far I remember you have to connect a computer through USB-C cable with monitor A and connect monitor B through regular DisplayPort cable to dedicated port on monitor A (see DisplayPort output in the description above). So it is not possible to use HDMI to daisy chain monitors. I use a dell laptop at work and was planning to buy a second U2723QE to have just one USB-C cable for everything.

These Dell USB-C Hub monitors are actually pretty cool. I picked up a couple P2422HE monitors to try out. Connected via USB-C to a Dell Inspiron laptop and connected ethernet cable to monitor. Daisy-changed to 2nd monitor via DP cable (each monitor has a DP-in and a DP-out). As expected, every works. The P2422HE is a 1080p monitor. There is a P2723DE that is 2K (2560x1440) or this one the OP is posting about which is 4K.

One thing the U2723QE does that the P-series doesn't is you can connect two computers to it and a wireless KB/Mouse receiver and when you switch inputs on the monitor, the keyboard and mouse will follow, just like a KVM.

The P-series at the Outlet are affordably priced. This Ultrasharp version is a bit rich for me but may recommend to clients.

Should add that my MBP14 M1 can get almost my full Gigabit internet speed (almost 900 down) when connected to the P2422HE. Since the U2723QE is 4K and uses more bandwidth, that could be why speeds are lower.

I can confirm that KVM switch works very well. I use two computers connected to one U2723QE. Work dell connected via usb c, personal macbook connected through hdmi and usb a. You can switch computers with a keyboard shortcut, so no need to use monitor buttons or menus.

I was thinking about this. Daisy-chaining two 4K screens -- would that be 8K worth of data? Is there enough speed on the USB-C port to do that and still have the hub functionality?

The U2723QE does have USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 (10Gbps) but is that fast enough?

We bought hundreds of these during the pandemic at the uni I work for and they are great but with caveats. The USBC hub is great for the most part but because it's simply USBC 3.1 Gen2 you won't get the most out of it if you use the usbc cable as a display input. Since driving 4K you are near its limits and you end up having to choose between speed or resolution. Otherwise its a great display at the sale price.

FYI, I've seen a lot of consumer comments about white colors appearing slightly off-white with the Dell S2722QC. Something worth looking into, if that affects how you will be using it.

This Dell U2723QE is a newer version of the Dell UltraSharp U2720Q with a few more features. The U2723QE has a bigger USB hub that features a KVM switch, allowing you to control two devices with the same keyboard and mouse. It also has Picture-in-Picture and Picture-by-Picture modes, which the U2720Q doesn't support, and it has daisy-chaining support, which you can't do with the U2720Q. The U2723QE also displays deeper blacks than the U2720Q, thanks to its IPS Black panel, but the contrast is still low.

There were some quality issues with the U2720Q. I was a victim of that. I hope Dell has addressed those with this newer model.

I've been searching for a monitor replacement for my Apple Cinema Display that's reasonably priced with speakers, USB, etc and I've come to the conclusion that none exist.

This monitor looks good on paper and seems to have everything I'm looking for - 4K monitor with USB ports, ethernet, and 90W PD (there's no speakers but that's doable) but once you factor in the resolution, there's simply not enough bandwidth for gigabit ethernet. So that get's cut to USB 2.0 speeds and frankly unusable.

So if you need more bandwidth, the next logical step would be a monitor with Thunderbolt but they're shockingly few and far between. Lenovo makes one which seems ideal but is expensive at almost $800 and doesn't include a webcam.

The other option..... the Apple Studio Display. It's such a huge jump in price that it is simply not worth it. The specs are great and I know the webcam and speakers are far above average for a monitor but the lack of HDMI/DisplayPort makes it unusable.

Will the display on this ultrasharp monitor be better than a UHD non-ultrasharp monitor like the S2722QC? In what sense are the ultrasharp displays more sharp?

Like the Dell U2723QE, [the S2722QC] has a 27-inch screen with a 4k resolution that results in fantastic text clarity, and while you don't get the same large USB hub, it still has one USB-C port if you want to easily connect your laptop, and it delivers 65 W of power delivery. If you don't even need the USB-C port, the Dell S2721QS is a cheaper alternative with the same screen size and resolution, making it great for the office.

The S2722QC is ideal for sharing your screen with someone next to you because it has wide viewing angles that make the image look consistent from the sides, and its excellent ergonomics make it easy to adjust. Unfortunately, it doesn't have a dedicated sRGB mode like the U2723QE, which means that its color accuracy isn't as good, but that's the trade-off you need to make with a mid-range monitor, and it's only a concern for photo and video editing.

I currently have a laptop driving two U2717Ds via daisychain. I don't like the (very small) internal laptop screen as the third monitor. Sounds like you are saying that this would allow me to replace the internal screen. that is, connect laptop to usb-c hub monitor and then daisychain the two U2717Ds off of the hub monitor (and not use the laptop screen at all). I realize that my lappy wouldn't be able drive a 4k plus the two I already have, but would the usb-c hub (on a lower-res screen) do what I want in principle?
