I was going to type out a response, but I think REI does a much better job covering the basics with visual guides as well.

I would categorize these as a light trail shoe. Something for use on a more manicured city or suburban trail. This would mean mostly grass or finely ground gravel. No exposed tree roots or large gravel to run over. Stay out of the mud as the lug pattern doesn't look conducive to shedding mud easily during the run. I wouldn't use these in a wilderness preserve or woods. The lugs are more aggressive than a road shoe, but not by much. I don't see any front toe reinforcement or a rock plate.

I remember when the GT-2000 series had decent colors to choose from. The past year, they've been atrocious.

Bought one. Even though I am currently wearing the Kayanos, but decided to pick this one up as I have had good experiences with the GT 2000 before. Its just a little less toe room and less cushioning than the Kayanos. But they are still comfortable.

Got these a month or two ago when this deal was live. Great shoe probably would grab another pair if I didn't pick up the Ultraboost deal yesterday.

What makes this a trail shoe? What are the features that are tailor purposed?

Toe box is small and the shoe is tight. Make sure to order a side up. Grippy enough but not for wearing around as a general walk around shoe. Not that comfortable

How do these compare to other options for heavy walking/standing shoes and some easy trails. I like the kayano 28 for running. Also saw the GT-2000 10 in sale earlier in the week. https://www.asics.com/us/en-us/gt...h=Standard

please keep in mind that these are not for moderate or difficult trails, just for light trails that doesn't need much grip

It's definitely a manageable color scheme that would look ok with regular and black jeans.

I love Asics when I can get the 4E width - anything else is not roomy enough for me.
It's difficult to find reasonable prices with 4E width ... I end up buying other brands.
I agree that Asics color schemes are poor - but I'll compromise on that.
