Decent deal on "grade a" Optiplex Windows Pro desktop for $319 (519 with 200 off).

i7-8700 with 32gb ddr4 w/old 2gb radeon r5 430, and 512GB ssd. USB-C w/displayport for 3rd out = very decent little triple-monitor stock-trader and number-crunching workstation for $320 shipped.

Always liked the i7 8700; this antique should crunch numbers swimmingly for the next decade. RAM and CPU alone get you to over $300. Decent deal--needed a cheap workstation that still had some grunt.

Thank you, OP.

Yes…no deals. Feel free to post one you think is s great deal

Dell refurb are 3+ years old and they have fake prices with coupons EVERY week. 30-40% off is normal
Glen's an expert and taught me about getting the cashback. First register with Cap On Shopping. Don't need to be a Cap One card user. Search Dell Refurb cashback offerings. May not get much many times. Keep checking. One day, you'll get a 20%/30%/40% offering. It may not need to be for the exact product you're looking for. For example, I chose a laptop cashback and got the cashback for a non-laptop. I'm not sure how Cap One would know by just a transaction total. It'll take 5-7 days likely to see it in Cap One. Then it will take awhile before you can convert it to a gift certificate for a vendor.

Like all cashbacks, it's not perfect; but Capital One is a large reliable financial institution. If you've done it correctly, they're not going to deny it later.

Don't hate the cashback if it only shows you 5% or whatever. Just keep trying every day or a few times a day. Add something to the Dell Refurb cart then remove it. Play with it. With modern AI these days, they'll get a signal that you didn't make a purchase and suddenly you get a better cashback (only a guess).

Choose the Dell Refurb deals regardless of the cashback. However, if you get a 15%-40% cashback, it's gravy. You know that with Cap One you'll get the credit eventually - as long as it shows up within a week. If it doesn't show up as a pending within a week, then you might not have done it right. Maybe you were trying to work more than one cashback, or you deleted the cookies before purchasing from Dell Refurb. Whatever.

If you want a seasoned expert's advice, ask Glen.

where did you get the 40% code from?
It was expired on Jan 31st, just wait and 40% to 50% will pop out at some point. The current codes are not good for anything >$600.

Is it possible to add memory to that radeon or, if not, would it be possible to allocate system RAM to the video card's RAM? Looking for something with 6GB video RAM and not sure if that can be the onboard 2GB with additional 4GB allocated from system or adding a physical RAM stick to the GPU?

What do you guys think about the Latitude 7400 2 in 1 for occasional Lightroom and Photoshop usage? Besides that I would use it to just surf the net and streaming here and there.

The one I'm looking at is the i7-8665U, 16GB RAM, 512 SSD. Looks to have good sRGB coverage and a matte screen. Price is $539 so should be $339 after $200 off.

Also how's Dell's reliability when it comes to their refurb laptops?

TIA!
Looking at this one too. Did you pick one up? I see the B grade $20 cheaper as well.....

The under $200 laptops on Dell refurbished (the latitude 5000 touch series) will be good for your needs (I believe they have a decently recent CPU with 2 cores, 4 threads).
are these good for watching movies too? ultra 4k display?
also, wondering whats the best way to get an extended warranty?

According to the Dell refurb site, the <$200 laptops have a core i5-7200U CPU.

https://www.dellrefurbished.com/c...ude%205289

According to this website, this laptop is a tablet-laptop hybrid that can play 4k videos just fine:

"Intel highlights in the press materials hardware optimization of 4K Ultra HD video playback on the 7th Generation Intel Core processors. We have tested 4K YouTube videos in web browsers and local 4K files in some Windows programs. YouTube UHD videos in Microsoft Edge and Google Chrome browsers run amazingly smooth on the i5-7200U, with a CPU load of around only 2 percent. The same applies to Windows' native Media Player program, which is able to play perfectly 25, 30 and 60 fps Ultra HD."

No, this is actually a smaller dedicated graphics card that has its own physical RAM on the graphics card.

Mind you, 2gb of dedicated ram would be on-par with 6gb of shared ram in many instances, but there's so much grey area here when the CPU is doing the video processing versus a dedicated graphics chip with its own dedicated RAM. Apples and Oranges really.

If you have something that really requies 6gb of vRAM, you'd want to buy another graphics card. But that would probably kill the value in this deal, as this is a compact slim-line machine: which would limit your gCard choices even further (read: it would make a decent 6gb card that much more expensive).

1 year warranty is very short, was hoping to get something that is reliable and can last minimum 4-5 years

which credit card would give the best extended warranty?

1 Year warranty is very standard. The vast majority of new laptops have the same 1 year warranty. How long the warranty is does not equal how long something will last. I have a lenovo T430s business laptop with a 1 year warranty that has lasted me 10 years (from 2012) without any problems. Business laptops like elitebooks and lattitudes are built to last even if they have short warranties.

idk about credit cards.

Also it's like 200 bucks. You can literally buy a new laptop every 1-2 years at that price compared to the price of a typical $800-$1000 new laptop.
