Just my two cents, but this amp is big time overkill. You'll blow out your back moving it around and scare the shit out of any household pets pushing it to its full potential.

I would look at smaller "bedroom" tube combo amps (5w) for home use. This was posted here a couple days ago and still seems live.

This model has both a 4W power reduction circuit and a master volume control so it's not like you have to crank it up to get a good tone out of it. If you're never going to leave your bedroom then the 5w model you linked to is more practical.

This amp w/ power reduction mode w/ a JHS volume control (little black amp) in the effects loop is perfect for home use. I use the stage 100 mk ii head plugged into my original HT Club 40 speaker portion (bypass original amp section) and the JHS volume knob dials down the level. Sounds great and easy to get great saturated tone out of it.

Hiding behind the grille cloth is an Eminence EM12 to handle the power. Full tilt this thing will make your ears bleed, but with master volume, power reduction mode, and the JHS its manageable and easy to get really good tone. EQ is a must in my opinion if you really want to round this out. I can get really decent MESA tones out of this with the EQ scooped.

Would you have told Beethoven to save his back by playing a fisher price keyboard? Would you have handed a ukulele to Metallica? Could you picture 2Pac rollin` trading his Benz for a hatchback? Greatness comes at a price! And the price of admission is Awesomeness (and loud amps Smilie

I agree that the 5-watt model, which is on sale much cheaper, is more practical for home use. But ... this thing only weighs 50 pounds. That's not light, but it's not bad for an amp that can easily work at home or for gigs. Unless you want to go with a separate head and cab, a 1x12 combo is the ideal size for versatility.

there is no head room on a 5w amp, why make this statement? clean channels need a lot of headroom to get decent sounds. 5w will only get you gross distortion

correct. since I am using the HT Stage 100 now, I replaced the 70/80 w/ the EM12. It fits just fine if you source the right hardware as the original bolts aren't long enough.
