Gamers Nexus did a review on this design and it is hot garbage, literally.
Proprietary hotbox. Please read reviews on this junk.
The original price is super inflated

The case gets slagged by in-depth reviewers because it's just plastic panels disguising an antiquated case design. I have an old Dell Optiplex 920 tower in my basement and the cheap pot metal case is shockingly similar to what is being used on the current Alienware machines (underneath the cosmetic panels).

The positive reviews are largely from folks who bought their PCs recently and make sense from an end user standpoint. This computer will absolutely play games very well, especially if you're upgrading from and older/lesser system. What many of them don't realize is that their systems are being throttled by extremely poor thermal management (things get too hot so the CPU and GPU automatically scale back to reduce the heat output) and they're actually getting a system that doesn't perform as well as it should. Most end users probably won't even notice at first, but these things become more relevant as the machine ages and newer games push it's capabilities.

The proprietary parts are another issue and could be a topic in and of itself. The motherboards in these are the cheapest of the cheap and aren't standard so they won't fit anything else. Also, have you ever priced a replacement proprietary Dell power supply? Yikes.
My liquid cooled R9 has been awesome. Fans only kick on once in a while when things get really busy. I think you're doing yourself a disservice to write off Dell's. My machine has been fantastic for the last few years.

I'm playing midnight suns on max settings with my Dell and it's incredible. Still running like a champ, a couple of years on with it's 2080 graphics card.

The pics always gets me clicking with the see through side panel and liquid cooling. Then read the specs with no option to make it look like the pic. This should be false advert or something.
lmao, good catch!

As someone who owns a dell aurora, I would steer clear from it. Incredibly restrictive case with poor air flow, limited liquid AIO options, poor RAM compatibility at advertised clocks unless you buy directly from dell which are all overpriced, and almost zero ability to upgrade.

If its white case with transparent side panel, I will pull the trigger. Unfortunately, there is no options to customize the case.
Just paint it with a sponge

Echoing a few other comments, I'd recommend Lenovo Legion if you are looking prebuilt. Cooling and airflow is great. Yes, the mobo is a Lenovo spec MSI and the RAM is limited to 1.2v so no OC, but they use standard ATX boards so you can always replace that at some point. Build quality is solid. And I know someone is going to mention that you can't run XMP on the RAM. While that's true, you can find RAM, often AMD optimized, that is not the crazy priced Lenovo spec'd HyperX and runs a full speed plug and play JEDEC profile. Sure it's cl22, but most people will never know the difference. I have a Legion T7 11700k w/ 3070 and 64gb DDR4 3200mhz Vengeance RGB RT and it's more than enough for my work and gaming needs.

I have this box I bought last year and after cashback and Amex credit deals, it came out to about this price. It's a solid machine imo but I mostly play XBL Ultimate games like Forza and Halo. I can run Halo on pretty high visuals in 4K sold frame rate. Forza high visuals in 1440p. I did eventually upgraded to 32gb ram.

Seems like solid specs for the price. Wish it was 32GB but I also wish I was a little bit taller

There's a deal for Amex card holders at Dell online. $120 back with $599+ purchase. Might be a good deal with that.

I have this exact one from the last sale a few months ago. The specs claim liquid cooling and the picture shows lights with a transparent side cover. For this price, it comes with neither one.
I had my job purchase it for autocad, and the video card seems to give me a lot of trouble. Freezing, locking up etc. I do however feel like it was a good deal, just not as trouble free as I hoped for. I did add 32gb of ram and swapped the ssd for a 1tb.
Just giving those who are interested a heads up. Read the fine print of the specs so that you know what to expect. They seem to make everything vague so you're stuck with it after purchasing.

Dell kill me their proprietary componets where you can't upgrade anything unless you from the parts from them.
I have r12 with same box and added ram, video card and SSD without any problems.

If only gaming go for 5600x. 5700x is only 5% more faster albeit has 2 more cores.
I'd go for a ATX sized motherboard bc more room between components but it's up to you.
For Ram go for 3600 mhz so ram and cpu can have 1:1 exchange.
If it were up to me I wouldn't rely on Teamgroup for SSD. At least go for Crucial's MX500 or Samsung drives.
Don't forget to undervolt the 6700xt if there's coil whine. Even if it doesn't it's better to undervolt a tiny bit.
Get a Gold PSU if you can. It's the last thing everyone will tell you to save money on. Plus a PSU is easiest thing to transfer over to the next rig. Spread out over time a $100 PSU is nothing is used gently over 7~8 years.

That's what I suggest. Happy gaming!
It depends on the game. Most games don't fully utilize that many cores, but there are a few out there. Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 is an example. The two extra cores would improve performance a good bit. Also, the extra cores would help with future proofing, since the current gen consoles have 8 cores, and game development tends to follow the consoles. Games will better utilize more cores before the Ryzen 5000 series is obsolete. I'd personally go for a 5800x3d if I were building right now, though. It'll have a longer lifespan for gaming.

I bought one of these for a song from a crypto-miner who just wanted the video card. Had it over a year. Water cooled even. Thermals are fine. My house didn't melt. My power bill didn't explode. Have enjoyed the performance and easy to use Dell support site. Its a quality built system for what it is. If you know what your buying its not bad at all. The reputation these things have is based on a lot of click-bait alarmism.
