I use cast iron on my induction. It's great.
Not sure if any of these models have same weakness as first tops that were made and sold by IKEA (also made by Fridgidare) but if one or both sides go out simultaneously it's most likely thermal fuse and it's hidden inside wiring shroud, very cheap ($35-40 with parts and shipping for DIY or $100 from manufacturer) and easy part to replace and since I did it for one of my customers it has been working fine ever since (they have and use this stove top daily for over 7 years and paid hefty sum to buy since it was new innovation at that time). If I remember correctly it was 16Amps rated one and it was first one half that went then the other.

Yeah, but I'm in a college house and can't risk smoke.

From personal experience, gas takes longer to boil water.

Yeah I've taken to preheating water in my electric kettle if I'm in a rush.

"Gas is king old electric can't compete" you meant to say. Induction is great, many professional cooks say induction is just as good or better.

Induction is hard to beat I can put a towel over my cooktop boil water in a pot take the towel off and put my hand on the glass if something boils over it goes on the towel since the cooktop does not get hot cleanup is also very easy you cannot say the same for gas with a boil over. plus gas just heats up a small ring on a pan. Induction does a better job of spreading the heat.

The only real limitation of induction that comes to mind is that aluminum and copper won't work with it without some kind of material that can be magnetized added in as additional layer. As far as efficiency it beats electrical stove especially those with cheaper thick metal spiral elements and doesn't heat up surface of the stove as much since it gets heated from cookware not the other way around as traditional electric stove does.

Induction is now much better and faster than gas, plus more efficient and cooler to work near. Plenty of chefs have pointed out how popular it's becoming for its speed. It's fine to prefer gas, but it's not because of any advantages.

Anyone have any input of the size of the coils on these? I have a pair of cheapo counter top ones but the coils on those are 4 inches diameter. Makes a very specific heat ring. Gas and electric, being inefficient, do make for more even heating. Including heating your kitchen. But still...
