Sam's Club has the Sapphire 9000 stud finder on clearance for $6.51, most likely in store only. I am pretty sure this is a rebadged Franklin Sensor one, they normally run $30 and up and are some of the better lower cost ones. I own a finish carpentry business and have been using Franklin Sensors stud finders for years, and this one from Sam's for about 2-3 years now. Mine even has it own pouch attached to my belt and gets used every day.

My local store had probably 75 of them a week or so ago, about half now,

showing different price in every store, from $9.50 to 20 - might be worth checking back. i already have the craftsman - wouldn't hurt to try this.

I've had two of these in the past and both times they crapped the bed within an hour of using them. I took them back and went with a Zircon which hasn't been fantastic, but it's still working after 6 months of heavy use.

I paid $20 for it last year and mine still works well w/out any issues. Not as many LED indicators as some but those are in the $40 range. This is worth the $20 and steal at this price.

Have the one from Menards and I love it, other friends loved it so much too they bought for themselves also. My club says about $13 which is still good.

I have this. It's worth it for finding studs more accurately. Picked up the studs through drywall and plaster. I just wish this had electrical sensor too.

Good price but after using 10+ stud finders over the years including expensive ones, save your sanity and just go with a magnetic one that is powerful enough to stick to existing drywall screws. This one [amazon.com] is excellent: If someone else put a screw there chances are better that it could be safe for you to put one in the area. All the fancy features (electrical alert, pipe alert) do next to nothing for me because they aren't accurate, specific, or consistent enough. The amount of times I've missed with even multi sensor stud finders are staggering, like the studs in my walls.

Obviously use common sense, be ready to quickly shut water/gas/electricity off at all times, and be cognizant of electrical boxes/switches/plumbing in the area and anticipated direction of "runs". Additionally, use a small drill or punch and test for nail plates on the face of the stud first and to verify that it feels like wood and doesn't flex when pushed on. Choose a suitable type and length of fastener (drywall screws are hardened and snap easily). I sometimes work in multi story condos and it can get expensive fast if you don't follow these tips. When in doubt, use a $20 borescope and spackle some drywall holes after.

I can hang 200lbs on anything I've ever mounted to a wall.

Well said. A strong fridge magnet works well too. Then I get a second confirmation with an electrical stud finder.
