Why would we buy that new 500$ of tech when I know that once VR3 comes, it will be left on the dust? Literally, even apple don't do this kinda of greedy move with their new tech.

Imagine being the average consumer last gen eyeballing VR but ultimately deciding, "Nah it's not for me, not yet, there's not enough games out yet. Maybe when there are more than just tech demos for it and the technology isn't as big of a pain in the ass, I'll give it a try then". And then they find out that entire library/generation of games is just gone/non existent for the new one, basically starting from scratch, likely repeating history with a whole new generation of mostly tech demos with a few gems, just like last gen.
BC and all it's built up gems might have gotten people to finally take the plunge. This is, after all, primarily a gaming device, that can't be used on a pc, that can't be used for very much non-gaming VR content beyond maybe some crappy theatre mode video player. The library of games it has isn't just important for it to succeed, it's vital.
I wonder how long scalpers will keep away the few people who are willing to pay for this thing. And scare away developers who won't think it's worth it to make games for it because most gamers who are willing to pay for it now, might just give up on it when they see after a few years how much support will eventually slow down.
It's just unfortunate. I want VR to succeed, but if they are just going to keep making unfortunate mistakes like resetting the library of games every generation, nobody is going to bother.
My problem is that THESE new added VR functionality of games we all have (i.e. this RE game) is geared towards VR2. And VR2 only.
How come that this VR games are not available for old VR users? Don't tell me that the haptic technology is the reason why. 🥹 Then remove it. Sony gave away PSVR adapter for PS4 owners to migrate to PS5, just to leave it die.
It's a software, the old PSVR should get the diluted version, strip of all it's new technology. Instead, SONY is forcing people to join the PSVR2 club... When the previous PSVR can still do that except with the new added features.

I don't mind that the new games don't run on the old headset. Once my budget does allow me to pick up a PSVR2, it will be THE way I want to experience NEW games. It's just going to be the superior experience. Unlike PC games where you can just lower resolution and a couple "post" processing features, the PSVR2 requires practically a different engine. The performance owes a lot to the foveated rendering, giving good quality as it optimizes based on eye tracking while dynamically NOT making peripheral vision as processor intensive… just that optimization alone could be the difference between being able to run on the PSVR2 and not the PSVR1. And yes, then there's the support for the new Sense controllers which are tracked in a completely different way than the old move controllers or PS4 controller + eye camera, the button and stick layout, touch sensors and haptics, etc.
I get it that you want to play the story on the old hardware. It's honesty amazing that Capcom (not SONY) spent the time developing this and is releasing the add-on FOR FREE (on top of the base game), because it's an extensive port, requiring customization deep in the core of the game engine. Making a port for the original PSVR would require a separate development fork to make an OG PSVR version, with tailor made downgraded assets and a lot of dev time spent on optimizations. Ultimately, it's understandable Capcom (not Sony) decided not to make an inferior version of their current flagship game which would always be reviewed as inferior to the PSVR2 version.
