From an aesthetic pov, the single black door ruins any uniformity you'd get by opting for a counter-depth fridge. Sort of looks like an old car with a junkyard replacement door.
The depth of the fridge (with door, without handles) is 29-1/4".
Without doors/handles, so body only, it's 24-7/8"
The 31-5/8" depth poster above is referring to includes doors/handles.

When I looked a few years ago for a true counter-depth fridge (closer to the 24-25" that most countertops are), I had to look beyond the American and Korean brands (not talking about where manufactured). Not sure if that's still the case today. At the time, I went with a Bertazzoni, which was 26-3/8" depth (with door, without handles).

Otherwise, "counter depth" seems to somehow mean that the fridge body (*without* the doors) is about 25" in depth, so there is a visual alignment/continuity from fridge body to counters, but the doors/handles protrude several inches past that.

This is a $400 drop from what the price has been ($1899.99). In addition, the $300 off $2000 Costco promotion still applies.

Edit: the $300 off $2000 appears dead as of today 3/2
31" depth is not by any reasonable standard counter depth, usually 30" is the absolute max cut off. Couple that with the half inch to one inch of clearance you will need in the back, this is far closer to a normal 33-34" deep fridge. This will stick out very far from counters.

Was it a linear compressor?
It's a variable speed compressor. Saves energy and is supposed to reduce wear and tear on components. They had issues early on but have since resolved them.

It is true that LG had a class action lawsuit due to the premature death of compressors for certain French door and side by side models sold between 2014-2017. Interestingly enough for these models LG enhanced their compressor design creating a linear compressor which was suppossed to simplify their compressor and make it more robust and reliable. The actual issues wasn't with the compressor itself but rather the tubing that allows the refrigerant to pass between the evaporator and the compressor. Over time this tube would get pitting/cracking that would allow air into the tubing increasing the refrigerant pressure. This cause the compressor to need to work extra hard to move the refrigerant around which eventually cause premature death of the compressor:https://topclassactions.com/lawsu...ettlement/

However, according to this article in 2023 LG has the highest favorable ratings and some of the lowest least favorable ratings of all major refrigerator brands: https://www.nytimes.com/wirecutte...rigerator/

We decided to go with the standard 27 cubic foot counter depth model for $1,750 (https://www.costco.com/lg-27-cu.-...3011.htmll). Though this model was the same price (or very similar) for this model at other big box stores (Best Buy, Home Depot) we decided to go with Costco because:
1. Haul away of the old refrigerator is included at no extra cost
2. You have 3 months to return without issue if a problem develops
3. Costco doubles the manufacturer's warranty

The price was further reduced as we purchased over President's Weekend it was considered a "tax free for Energy Star applicances" in our State (MD).

Regardless what you go with, aways remember the golden rule with refrigerators, don't get ones with ice makers on the door. All models have issues with this design and your begging for an issue to cause your refrigerator to fail if you purchase a model with ice makers in the door.

Regarding purchasing extended warranties for appliances. From what I've read it is wasted money for the following reasons:

1. You have to use the warranty's repair vendor who are often times completely ignorant of your make and model you have and take forever to fix it. You're much better off going with a local more reliable repair service if/when repairs are needed. Local repair services will be much more motivated to fix it right the first time then a warranty service vendor.
2. Typically most extended warranties do not cover your spoiled food cost which adds up if your fridge is constantly breaking down due to crappy warranty service fixes.
3. Your much better off putting the money of the extended warranty into a new fridge when the time comes to replace it.
4. Do your due diligence on manufacturers/model track records so hopefully you won't buy a lemon (which seems to be harder and harder to discern these days).

Ice machine at the bottom. Very weird.

Fridge just don't last as long as they use to anymore.

My 7-year-old Samsung had the electronic board replaced. They agreed to cover it.

The doors usually can't be flush with the counters or else they would run into the counter when trying to swing open. Unless you are getting a fringe with fancy hinges that allows the doors to move forward when opening

I've read that internal water units break down less often than external water and ice maker
My external water/ice dispenser is a pain because it isn't all that well insulated (just a rubber flap really) so the ice sticks into a big brick if I don't use it often enough. My next fridge will be an internal unit (pitcher + ice drawer)

Old fridges could last decades but they weren't nearly as energy efficient as modern ones.

Actually, it's even worse than that. Any shred of natural light hitting the glass allows you to see straight in. My wife got so sick of reading the ingredients on the mustard bottle. Ended up looking terrible and we returned it. Otherwise a great fridge if you don't mind seeing everything in it when the light hits just right

I don't understand the need for an internal water dispensary that potentially causes cold loss and less economy! but loved the internal ice maker.
Does anyone have any real-hand experience with this and is icemaker in this works flawlessly and without the usual clogging as of other bro and sister fridgs?

Paint the glass portion of the door, with a metal stain spray, or cover it with an aluminum foil adhesive sheath!
Then you have the junkyard car the other OP was talking about!LMAO

Ice makers typically clog when the ice gets old. I haven't got clogging yet but then I do not use often. The ice chamber is easy to remove. The additional icemaker in the freezer is a good add for parties and option to turn it off from the door is awesome. The water reservoir is probably puny two glasses, so I have to keep a jug of water in too coz my fridge ain't stuffed to the gills. I like the partial door concept to conserve the temperature inside.
