I post about this every time I see these on sale so apologies if you've seen it before, but I bought the Juice 5 in one of the sales several months ago and after a couple weeks of riding it the steering column snapped, sending me flying into the street. May have just been a dud, but considering this could have been fatal, I just want to warn people whenever I can. There are more tried and true e-scooter brands out there that (hopefully) won't potentially kill you.

It didn't break at the hinge either; the metal column itself snapped. No idea what could have caused that since I wasn't doing anything crazy, just riding it down a sidewalk and braking before getting to an intersection. And again, after only a couple weeks of riding it.
People in cities actually use bikes as transportation, not just as entertainment. Regularly pedaling for several/dozens of miles is in fact tiring, and you don't always want to be sweaty and tired when you arrive at work, school, the store, whatever.

Even if you are just buying a bike for fun, a bike with an electric motor is, well, way more fun to most people. Nobody is buying an ebike to "virtue signal", that is just something you've concocted to somehow devalue a normal and practical choice people are making. People bike for transportation, personal enjoyment, to get outdoors and move around, or to save money.

And ebikes are cheap, both to purchase and operate. If you really go full slickdealer and crunch the numbers, just replacing the additional calories burned while biking (~40 calories per mile) is a lot more expensive than charging an ebike (~1kwh per 25-40 miles, generally less than 1 cent per mile).
I purchased the hurley Laguna back in August during the Joy Ride Bikes sale for approx. $840. My wife later purchased the lectric XP 2.0 (now 3.0) Step Thru for $999. There isn't anything wrong with the Hurley Laguna and I was happy to ride it around the area... I felt like a kid again with having an E-Bike. Anything that gets you off the couch is a great thing IMO.

My reason for bringing this up is when comparing the two bikes the build quality/ support model for the lectric bike is better for just a little bit more money. Some points include higher wattage motor, more accessories, faster support/ shipping, better documentation, and free upgrades during sales (large seat/ suspension seat post).

I don't think you will go wrong with any E-Bike but I am offering alternatives if folks want different options in the upper price range of this sale. I hope to see you all out there on the bike trail!

I bought hang 5 e scooter 6 months ago and battery is already at less than half capacity. Doesn't hold the charge for more than 30 mins and does not go beyond 1 mile of range. Total trash

Can't find enough reviews and real world test on the BIG SWELL! There is no info available on the battery and its capacity.

How is Woot's return policy on items like this? Would I be able to return hassle-free?

The back suspension also looks like a concern. Although it is a long and spacious saddle seat, it might be rough to ride on. And it doesn't look like it can be upgraded easily with a plug and play suspension part.

I do not recommend it. it gets about half the advertised mileage and the seat is very uncomfortable.

Any idea if you can strap a toddler seat in the back?
I'm not sure about strapping a toddler seat but they make specific toddler seats for bikes. Just search for "bike child seats".

Lot of people on Reddit really like the big swell. Seems most paid between 1,200 and 1,400

Ebike batteries by themselves with quality samsung cells start at around $500.
I Doubt these have quality batteries so may want to charge them outside.

I don't have an e-bike. And I have nothing against them because where I live there are very few flat places to ride. So these things are great for assisting people up hills that would keep them at home if their only other option was to use pedal power to get out and ride.
But I just don't get the attraction for so many of these buyers that live in the flatlands or live in a (flat) city. Are they really willing to spend this much money to avoid pedaling a bicycle? Like that's really so hard? Or are they buying them to virtue-signal for being "eco-friendly"?
I'm in shape and live in a relatively flat area in the Midwest. In the past I've put 1,500-2,000 miles on my non-electric bike just in commuting and errands, and that's not counting the miles I put in on my road bike.

However, I just started a job that that's 10 miles away from home, doesn't have a shower, and I have to look presentable when I show up. It's not feasible to do that on a traditional bike (mainly the "must look presentable when arriving" part) so just picked up an electric bike (Level.2) for the commute.

That plus being able to use it for things like grocery shopping means that I really won't be using my car that much throughout the spring, summer and fall. That means I'm not buying gas, putting wear and tear on my car, still getting out for some exercise, etc.

If I want to go for a ride in some amazing deserted country roads I'll take my Trek Madone carbon road bike, but I'm definitely not using that for commuting to work, or going to leave it locked up outside some bar downtown...

In that case, "we'll deduct the prepaid cost of return shipping from the refund", which could easily be $50 anyways.

These are great for the price. I have a super73 and these are similar, can't guarantee the battery won't catch on fire though

Are these self propelled bikes or do they just assist you when pedaling?

As someone who has tripled the number of scars on my body since I started cycle commuting, you really don't want to be going faster than 20 mph for any long stretch of time. If you're getting this to do 28 mph all the time, then you should also be looking into motorcycle gear.

I agree on everything you said until you started comparing cost of charging to cost of feeding yourself. For sure a gym membership or fancy equipment or classes for exercise is more expensive than food. Also I'd expect most of us to eat same amount of food with or without biking, so at least this way you'd be healthier in the end. Otherwise I totally agree, I use to bike everywhere including work, but now I can't be sweaty at my destination so I'm heavily considering an electric bike.
