My wife and I take turns putting the account in our names every 2 years. We just alternate.
You're right. The standard plan doesn't include unlimited data. Most states have a 1.2TB/month soft data cap -- some North Eastern states are exempt from that data cap I believe. From what I understand, users who go over the data transferred per month are given one warning if they go over it the first time. The next months if they do go over the limit, they'll get charged something like $10 overage fee per 50GB, maximum of $100 overcharge fee. See: https://www.xfinity.com/support/a...ceed-usage

However, I am seeing that the Xfi Complete addon is available for $10/month extra bringing the total costs up to $35/month. For $35/month this plan still seems worth it with unlimited data and higher upload speeds (for select regions [reddit.com])***.

If anyone is going with this plan, I do recommend getting this "Xfi Complete" as it unlocks unlimited data caps (as opposed to 1.2TB without it), and it also unlocks upload speeds which for me tested out to be around 115Mbps, as opposed to something much less like 10Mbps without. For me, this add-on is essentially a required item.

For anyone's existing network setup, I actually didn't have to configure and/or make much changes to my network settings either. With Xfinity's gateway, I just logged in and switched to Bridge mode, which essentially made it a modem-only and then connected my router via ethernet wired, and everything worked as per my previous configuration I had with my previous internet service provider.

Can we use our own Modem and Router with this offer?
You should be able to at least attach a secondary router to this, but I would be personally wary of not using the equipment at all - if you are picking it up for the purpose of unlimited data. I think the stipulation of getting no cap internet was that you use their equipment

Question on the Flex streaming box, is it entirely free or just free renting?

I had same situation but I sent msg through the app and they fixed it in an hour. Tried chat first but that was a waste of time.
Do you remember how you got to the wrong group in the app? Navigating Comcast's customer service is a mission.

So true. Go to chat and put in rewards account i think and then i think there was choice something like problem with rewards account. Good Luck. Hard to believe an internet company has such poor technology, but then i guess they really just got lucky and are really a cable tv company that was in the right place a the right time???

existing customer, so I signed up under other family member's name, decided to use my own equipment option, self-install kit selected, order confirmed via email

Now I get notice that they're terminating my existing service today. What can I do to extend it few days or can i switch seamlessly tomorrow morning to new account?

If so, do I just unplug my existing modem and restart to accept the new account/go-live?

any help would be appreciated

thank you

What is it that they gain from making you use their gateway (which in my case comes at no extra charge) in order to get the promo discount you signed up for instead of using your own gear?
Sorry Been Away,

So first let me say I am NoOOoOOo "expert" in any of this Xfinity modem business. I had previously been using my own NETGEAR Nighthawk CM1100 and a couple of those T-Mobile Cellspot routers they had on SlickDeals FOREVER!!! Stick Out Tongue

"Presumably"...they want you to use their modem/router combination device so they can rake in the rental fees (in this case, once the promotion period ends). Also I hear talk of these gateways having a "secret" wi-fi band that they use/push out for their mesh network (xfinity wireless it may come up as on your phone or something when you are out and about in a metropolitan area) which there are differing opinions on if that can/can't be disabled. Perhaps someone knows more on the subject can speak to that.

The XB3 modem/"gateway" is based on pretty old tech/standard now (DOCSIS 3.0 released in 2006) but the XB8 is DOCSIS 3.1 (released 2013?). So still not the latest and greatest but yeah. You can look up some specifications on the difference between the two.

For a vast majority of people...on this speed....I imagine the XB3 will work/operate fine. Just don't try and lure me in with pics of your "top-tier" hardware in a promotion and then try and pull the ol' "switch-a-roo" once I sign up for said service was my whole deal. And no. That pun was not intended. Roll

Well I did that and after 24hrs still see both xfinitywifi and Xfinity wireless signals at 100% strength so don't think it coming from a neighbor.

Huh,

Well I am not sure/certain of when that article is from that Wise posted. And I haven't tried myself as it is no bother to me (honestly).
Perhaps it is no longer an "option"? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

You try giving the modem a hard reboot...unplugging for like 60 seconds...after having changed the setting?

Yes I did all that. It's just more deception from Xfinity. Why do they have a setting to turn it off if it doesn't actually turn it off. I'm wondering if anyone has designed a wifi blocking device. I'm thinking using the xb8 box covered in tin foil and a few holes to put around the gateway. I'm using my on router because Xfinity won't allow a separate named guest network and won't provide extenders for 90 days. What am I supposed to do with the devices that don't get a signal on the far ends of my house for 90 days??? Or all the homeautomation devices previously installed with an isolated guest network? More bait and switch. I was able on my second attempt to get the xb3 exchanged for a xb8 but it wasn't easy. Rep in store tried every lie in the book but I wouldn't budge. It is sweet little device but I've seen absolutely no difference in speeds or latency with the xb8. It was just one of those principle things, I hate the deceptive advertising. PS I opted for the unlimited option and would have been happy to use my own Docsis 3.1 modem but they charge $30 extra for using your own device so its obvious they are profiting from us using their gateway. Maybe monitoring other local networks and collecting data. Who knows?

Yeah,

I hear ya. That is all it really boils down to though: Who knows?

I could have swore I looked at the SSID's being broadcast around me and didn't see any xfinity wireless on there. May check again this afternoon.

Since I am getting the base service for so cheap I just did the xFi to get around paying that extra $20 for using my own equipment these upcoming two years. My modem will be perfectly fine to use if I decide to go back to it down the road. Will "re-evaluate" the situation then.

I was paying $110 for essentially the same level of service for the last two years. So I can't REALLY complain. Well...not much anyways. Wink
I am calling it "a win". For now.

Currently have XB7 with 1200 speed - Want to switch to wife's name for new plan but I work from home and need internet.

Is there a way to set up plan in her name/ which cancels our current plan but then use the same XB7 I already have so I don't have down time? Is there a way to call and have them switch the old xb7 over to the new acct? Thanks in advance if you know the steps to do this..
