every professional reviewer has this on the recommended buy list. this is hard, if not impossible to beat at this price. just note the lower warranty length of 1 year versus 3 for a new unit.

you won't find anything else with dirac and full pre-outs at anywhere near this price.
open box available with full 3 year warranty for $990 from an authorized Onkyo dealer.

There's never going to be an official company source that admits, "yeah, they're the same inside." Google "onkyo rz50 vs pioneer lx505" and read through the many forum threads; most enthusiasts recognize them as using the same platform.

I saw a comparison photo showing both the insides and the layout is the same (can't find it again). Whether there are component quality differences or whatever, I don't know if anybody has compared to that level of detail.

The back panels are the same. https://imgur.com/a/pqg9CIL The internal layout is the same. The menu system is the same except for the logo. There are slight feature differences that you can learn about if you want to read through all those forum threads.

Did they ever fix the unit overheating and dying after a year or 2? I went through 2 Onkyo units. DId not overuse, had small fan on it still would not last. Frown
There's no hardware relationship between the old Onkyo units and this one. Onkyo went out of business and the current units are made by the (also new ownership) Pioneer company. The hardware inside this Onkyo is the same as current Pioneer models so the "same old problems" would not need to have been fixed. What the reliability of the new platform is remains to be seen after a few years.

I think its more the opposite......with Onkyo buying Pioneer
Pioneer had been struggling in their home entertainment business for many years

I will explain this simply as I have stated before
There is an additional step with Dirac

With Audyssey I tweaked and tweaked and tweaked and then would rerun it
Then repeat the cycle overtime
You can understand one additional step up front versus tweaking it for months and the big difference there is between the two

But you did not answer my question...curiously......
No sorry I've used Dirac many times, what is this "an additional step with Dirac" ?
Especially since you say it's "more complicated"!

I will ask again....
what specific Dirac equipped products have you owned personally and what did you find more complicated?

The extra step I reference, for me personally, was in the speaker set up......added a few minutes

My experience has to do with the specific brand I purchased and its implementation of Dirac

Speaker set up is "more complicated" !?

What brand do you need to do some "complicated" speaker set up that only applies to Dirac and what makes it complicated!?

I said there was another step in the inital speaker set up

You are " coming to your own conclusions" again and you didnt answer my questions.

wonder why?....Hmmmm

if you want to use the term more complicated...that would have been applicable to the Marantz prepro that was pulled from system that was poorer sounding

Actually YOU said:

"Dirac is more complicated up front ...but no tweaking after the initial set up for me"

If that's not the complicated part of Dirac, what is?

The only statement I keep bringing up, YOU have made often in these threads:

"Dirac is more complicated up front ...but no tweaking after the initial set up for me"

Clearly you said Dirac is more complicated, what is complicated with Dirac?

Asked and answered and you should read and quote the rest of what I posted
I said there was additional step in the speaker set up in my personal situation with the Dirac unit I purchased

I said the Marantz pre/pro was actually more complicated in operation

But..you didnt answer my questions.....hmm
Thats interesting in so many ways....

You also might check the blind testing of some A/V professionals that was done a few months ago

Some room corrections did well.......very well to be more exact
And others didnt too well...
