How comfortable is this compared to a 1080 v10 which I have now and love how soft the bottom is.

This is plush cushioning but moderate flexibility while the 1080 is balanced cushioning but more flexible. This also has a slightly higher drop. They're both rated for long distance/marathon use so you'll prolly be good with either. Just go try them on!

I desperately need new walking/gym shoes. How is their return policy? I have never had New Blance shoes so not so sure on my size.

Isn't it the case, that there is a great deal of people who buy "running" shoes who don't actually run? Just use for casual wear, gym, etc.

You'd have to pay return shipping. Other than that it is pretty straightforward. Also, Joe's New Balance is separate from New Balance. I tried returning a pair bought from them to a nearby New Balance store and was told I'd have to ship this directly to Joe's New Balance. Apparently Joe's is an online-only discounted warehouse of New Balance. Although many folks here might be knowing this already I learned this the hard way.
