If Google continues its generous trade-in values when the 7a is released, then grab a cheap 6a now and trading it in for a 7a might be a good plan too.

I guess I was spoiled with the Moto Z2 Force. That ran circles around this phone.

Plus the bills quality is horrible. Third Moto phone and will be my last. OS locks up and you have to run the battery down, soft reboot, and then it works again. Last time it happened, it was the wife's phone. All it would do until the battery drained was quietly (not normal volume) say "Hello Moto" about every 20-30 seconds....
I don't know how likely this scenario is, but if your tarde-in is indeed questionable, you may get stuck paying the full price for the Pixel 6a.
At that time, I traded in a Pixel 3 where I got $197 for the trade-in. Now the trade-in for the 3 is only $36. If you didn't get that deal, this is still good.
During this Thanksgiving, hopefully there will be a similar deal for the 7a.
Edit: I didn't realize this wasn't instant savings my fault.

Waiting for upgrade qualifier
Do not buy " a '"models.. usually they don't qualify with upgrades as others like 6,7,6pro & 7pro.
Correct if I am missing any thing on 6a upgrade offers

Also A's absolutely qualify for trade in since I've done that for my last 2 generations. The 6A however has not been accepted as an eligible trade-in yet probably because it's still fairly new.
My wife, parents, and myself all have the 6A. The hate towards it in here is somewhat baffling. It works very well for a $250-400 phone. I do agree that you should turn off 5G but also feel you should do that on ALL phones unless you live in a major city like NYC. It simply is not ready yet. Our phones do not have heat issues, do not drop calls, do not have crashes.... I have no idea why so many people are having issues in this thread compared to our experiences. The finger print scanner has functioned great after one of the first early patches a month or 2 after release.

The phone was already quite mature after the first software updates (thats the only time it felt hot to the touch). Since then, it has had no issues at all. The fingerprint isnt as quick as the 4a5g for sure, but it is maybe a 1/4 of a second vs 1/2 of a second. I programmed her thumb to be three "fingers" so that the phone can scan faster. Thats about it. Phone has not crashed, froze, or had signal dropout issues. I raised a hullabaloo with her to update in March when I heard about the big vulnerability, but she would have never been the wiser if the phone hadnt updated ever again.
This is not to say that everyone is being gaslit about Tensor 1...My daily driver, a 6 Pro, had horrible issues with the modem turning off in the middle of the night and getting NO CALLS unless I reset the phone. Everything else about the phone was fantastic (same heat issues at initial setup, but nothing since then). But this problem was bad enough that I had UBIF change out the entire mobo and screen under warranty. Zero issues since then.
I would say that the main weakness for the 6a these days is the battery life, esp compared to its mid-tier predecessors. The 4a was an absolute beast in longevity with that SD730G. The 4a5G was right behind it.
I actually echo what others here have said; if you can, get the 6a, even if you dont like it. It will likely be worth quite a bit during the next round of trade-ins. I have $640 of credit stored at Google Store, and will likely combine it with the 6a to get the 8 Pro for a nice price.
If any of you want a 8...dont do anything at all, and wait for Mint Mobile to have another crazy deal, lol.
Neither phones from Metro's recent $40 deal are on their list: Moto G stylus 5g 2022 and OnePlus N20
