giving up sugars isn't going to make a difference for cancer. Every carb you eat eventually gets converted to sugars anyway. Instead, it's more important to finish treatment in the hopes that all cancer cells are eradicated. If one cancer cell survives, it can eventually grow and spread again. I would suggest their dad only listen to medical providers on what to do and follow their recommendations.
Actual MD here (whether you believe or not). Absolutely minimize your sugar intake as uncontrolled diabetes will make you relatively more immunocompromised, which is already in the case of cancer. However, also enjoy life for you're celebrating something miraculous. And I would definitely not fear monger from a book written by an RN that suggests alternative medicine to treat cancer.

I'm not an expert but I don't think it's actualy possible to eradicate every single cancer cell, and reverse the gene expressions underlying them.

Most carbs get converted to glucose, true. But the rate of absorption and impact on insuline response, is still different among other things.

Unfortunately, it's not common for medical providers to give nutirtion advice in many cases as it's not how they are trained. Unless something is establiashed after decades of research and finds its way into their textbooks and guidelines, they prefer to do nothing about it (professional liability and all).

The American Institute for Cancer Research and the American Cancer Society recommend that you:

Choose high-fiber carbohydrates that don't spike blood sugar like whole fruits, beans, lentils, vegetables, whole grains and fresh herbs.
Avoid quickly digested carbohydrates that raise blood sugar fast including soda, juice, candy and desserts.

The same organizations funding those groups are the same organizations making their insane profits from cancer. You're delusional if you think they're trying to eradicate anything.
