I've been buying receivers from A4L for probably 15 years now. I always buy refurbs, the one problematic Onkyo I bought years ago had an HDMI issue and Onkyo honored the warranty and replaced the board for free. Highly recommend this seller. I'm currently using a Denon 950H I got a few years back on a pricing error for $299. Not enough reason to upgrade… yet. Maybe next year
Here's the Crutchfield breakdown on RX-V385 v. RX-V4A
https://www.crutchfield.com/S-07k...X-V4A.html

At a glance, the RX-V4A is 80 watts/channel (vs. 70 on the RX-V385), and supports Airplay 2, Alexa, and Google Assistant. Plus the HDMI 2.1/8k support you mentioned. RX-V385 has Bluetooth only, no wifi.

The RX-V385 is available from Accessories4Less for $199 now (also a refurb, but doesn't include free extended warranty):

I found this one for free earbuds: FREE50EPH

Why not instead run your sources directly to the OLED and use eARC to get audio from the TV to your X3400H
I used a SHARC audio box to do this very thing (In my case, my Marantz was old enough to not even support eARC)

Its not a great experience overall. You're actually limited by the codec support of the TV when you use eARC

My LG OLED wouldn't pass any DTS formats

Are you saying the SHARC isn't a great experience?

I am still using a denon 2808ci to drive LCR channels in my bedroom. A HDMI splitter supports 4K HDR plus fire cube 3 or nvidia shield are only things you need. Cheaper than SHARC..

I'm an A/V noob, I don't know much about these receivers. I have a Samsung Q70 and a denon decent soundbar with a sub. Can this do anything to better my visual/audio experience?

Please tell me what electrical connection is required for it. US 110 volts or European 220 volts supported?

110-120V, I think. The official site has so many specs it forgets that one Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

Yeah I think it's hit and miss depending on the TV and what you need out of it. Some TVs do better than others at reliably passing varied formats out over eARC (or re-encoding on the TV as applicable). I believe my Sony TV will pass DTS but it occasionally has issues with passing through uncompressed 5.1 audio.

I was going based off of this: https://manual.yamaha.com/av/20/r...48555.html

And the back of the receiver states Zone B.
Depends how you have this setup but it's really only a one zone receiver. Technically if you only want to have it setup in a 3.1 format then you can use the remaining 2 speakers for a second zone but I don't think most people would want to give up the 5.1.
To help compensate I simply use a speaker selector switch to give me the 2nd zone (aka outdoor speakers) but I cannot play from two different sources at the same time doing this. Overall though it's been a great receiver and I do like it.

It won't help your visual experience, and you'd need to ditch the sound bar and replace it with 5 separate speakers and a subwoofer - which would almost certainly sound superior to any sound bar depending on the quality of speakers selected. This receiver by itself won't immediately help without speakers for it.

as far as visual experience, AV receivers should passthrough any video without affecting it or limiting it. passthrough DV, HDR, HDR10. as far as sound experience goes, you will definitively hear a difference in sounds directionality with correctly placed speakers. a soundbar can only separate the left and right channels so much.

A lot of the refurb Yamaha AV receivers are returns due to HDMI eArc handshake. More of annoyance that may have you power receiver & tv on and off one out of five times.

Are you saying the Yamaha refurbs have this fixed or not?
