What does Nitro really give? I "boosted" a server once but I think it needed multiple boosts to do anything useful and my trial ran out after that.
  • 2 free boosts per month
  • custom emojis
  • custom profile like color and border, etc.
  • higher streaming quality/fps
  • higher upload limits (I can upload like 1 min videos from my phone)
  • they just added super reactions
  • new soundboard
  • higher character limit for messages
Mostly advertised towards people who use discord a ton, like me, plus I don't mind giving my money out to Discord.

I'm generally curious as to why anyone would buy this.
I host streaming parties with friends from different states so I can stream at higher resolution to them with Nitro but otherwise there isn't much of a reason I can think of

The tl;dr is that most people don't "need" nitro... But - if you happen to own and run a large server, it can be nice to have since I think it lets you make custom emojis, can let you stream in a way that looks better - higher fps and resolution I think - if enough people boost the server, etc...

Maybe a year or two ago, I think epic games gave away a free month of nitro for accounts that haven't used it before. Don't think there's usually things like that that happen or sales, but again, you can definitely go without it

I'm new to the whole Discord thing. I'm not sure I understand the value of paying for this. Am I really just getting access to emojis? Is it essentially digital badges to show off to others?

This is essentially what you'd get access to.

The only people who really know how to use Discord are gamers/zoomers. No real world use case. I've never really been invited to join a Discord server as it seems to hard to use. Not a lot of non gamer people use Discord. Kind of useless like just like tumblr live

Not accurate. Discord is the reddit of live chat. You have to dig a little to find the servers, and there aren't as many, but theres lot of good ones. For example, some of the sports servers are excellent. A few good music based as well.

My entire business has switched from zoom and internal email to discord and it is absolutely fantastic. Easy to make separate chat groups for projects, easy to ping people you need to talk with in a quick manner, and it is so lightweight that it can be used on phones, tablets, or pc's.

I would never even think of going back. Age range of employees are 23-60, and while there was a slight learning curve, it is absolutely fantastic once complete.

Everyone has nitro as well due to the amazing upload sizes. The cost is a couple thousands a year for everyone, however that cost is nothing compared to the savings in wages paid due to how easy data is searched and used. Nitro users also get to give a server "server boosts" which allows crystal clear video chat and screen sharing at 1080p.

On a non business level, discord is amazing for finding niche information. I've been using discord since 2015 and will admit that it can be confusing at first, but others should give it a shot, even though this person couldn't figure out how to use it.

I'm a discord user since 2016 and found it being useless to have discord nitro membership. It's to be able to use custom emoji and that's practically all you're paying for. I don't really care about any of the features and it's not a need for me but more of a "want" which is absolutely unnecessary. If you are living in your parents home, with no job, and don't go to school, then chances are you probably want this for your friends.

I feel like when people can use custom emoji and I can't, it makes them feel more special like in a way where they have something you don't comparably in real life. I don't know any good examples to use. Maybe elitism is what I am referring to like having such high end gear in a game to do more damage than someone who is less geared than you ( MMO).

Just a bunch of spoiled kids who don't know value of money pay for this crap. People who say it's worth it are just rationalizing.

I agree for a non business setup because you can find discord nitro for $29 per year all over the net. People use the currency conversion issue for Turkey, and it costs them roughly $12.40 USD for nitro, and they resell it for $29. I've seen it as low as $25.

if you aren't educated on something, don't try to speak on it.

as for nitro its the biggest money grab and only useful for heavy streamers, but they entice everyone because you can't emoji without it.
