No, they are just dumb. They don't know that table sugar (sucrose) is 50:50 fructose:glucose while high fructose corn syrup is 55:45 fructose:glucose. They don't know that fructose is in fruit. They don't know that agave syrup is 82% fructose. They don't know a lot of things, but they've heard. So, they parrot. They caution others. Then when confronted, they try to provide weak evidence from sources without peer review.
