Does anyone have experience between a semi auto setup with the Bambino vs a full auto such as the Phillips latte go? I understand the differences in the setups for quality and convenience. I'm debating if the semi auto will end up being more hassle or complicated to get quality espresso than I anticipate. Especially with a growing household etc. Looking to upgrade from drip and Nespresso

I love the brewing side of my bambino plus. However, the auto froth in my experience only works 20% of the time. You quickly lose faith after several manual stops or overflows.

I've been trying to figure out a machine to get my wife. Can you manually froth with the Bambino Plus?

It's a tradeoff of convenience vs quality. My brother in law has had a Jura fully auto machine for about ten years and he loves it. I have an Italian dual boiler machine. My espresso is way better, but you need to learn how to use it correctly.

Using a good quality, semi-automatic dual boiler, such as an E61 machine, you can definitely make espresso that's as good as the best cafe. I pour my wife a cappuccino with a flower on top every morning. But I took a class and learned the process. Now that I know it, I don't have to think very much, I just weigh, grind, tamp, put the cup on a scale, start the shot, pour some milk, steam it, check the shot timer, stop the shot, stop the milk steaming, wipe the steam wand, dump the grounds from the portafilter, then pour the milk. I can type that all from memory cause I do that every morning. I also buy my coffee from a local roaster and I make sure the beans were roasted 5 to 21 days ago.

See? Your choice. You can take all of those steps and make perfect quality drinks, or you can go for a step down... but anyone in your household just pushes a button and gets a drink.

I believe so. When it works it's great on auto mode. But 3 overflows is enough to make me stand and watch it. 20% might be an over estimate. Also the stock pitcher only has a min and max marking. On the outside of the steel can. How the heck am I suppose to know if it's at min and max through ba stainless steel wall.

I've been waiting since nov/dec for this sale.

Caved last month and got it for full price...called William Sonoma and asked if they can price match my existing purchase..nope.

So I bought one from Crate & Barrel on sale (WS didn't have any black truffle in stock in store) and returned that one to William sonoma next door...

win win.

Thanks for the extensive reply!! Sounds like getting it down to a habit doesn't make it a "chore/task". Albeit an enjoyable one. Considering the wife is also a key point haha

So i have the bambino and the phillips 3200 non latte go. The grinder broke after 2 years and I brought spare parts for from phillips it still doesn't grind as well as it did when I first got it. The machine definitely paid itself vs buying coffee but Im kind of disappointed that it only lasted 2 years.
