For example, you may not receive the statement credit if (a) the merchant uses a third-party to sell their products or services; or (b) the merchant uses a third-party to process or submit your transaction to us (e.g., using mobile or wireless card readers); or (c) you choose to make a purchase using a third-party payment account or make a purchase using a mobile or digital wallet. Purchases may fall outside of the offer period in some cases due to a delay in merchants submitting transactions to us or if the purchase date differs from the date you made the transaction (for example, the purchase date for online orders may be the shipping date). Statement credit will appear on your billing statement within 90 days after 7/5/2023, provided that American Express receives information from the merchant about your qualifying purchase. Note that American Express may not receive information about your qualifying purchase from merchant until all items/services from your qualifying purchase have been shipped/provided by merchant. Statement credit may be reversed if qualifying purchase is returned/cancelled. If American Express does not receive information that identifies your purchase as qualifying for the offer, you will not receive the statement credit. Limit 1 enrolled Card per American Express Card online account. The enrolled Card account must be active, not past due, canceled, or have a returned payment outstanding to receive the statement credit. Any benefit earned from this offer is in addition to the rewards (i.e. Membership Rewards or cash back) earned as part of your existing Card benefits, but your ability to earn spend-based rewards for the purchase will be based on the amount after any statement credit or other discount is applied. Amex Offers are available for varying and limited periods of time and are dynamic and personalized. If you navigate away from the Amex Offers page, you may see different offers when you return. For questions regarding your Card Account, please call the number on the back of your Card. By adding an offer to a Card, you agree that American Express may send you communications about the offer. The representative told me issues with Amazon and all in the "meantime". No help at all.
On 11/20 and 12/9, I purchased $1000 eGift cards. I was easily able to add those gift cards to Apple Pay and PayPal. They worked in-store with Apple Pay and at *most* online sites using either the card number, PayPal, or Apple Pay.
Then on 12/20 I purchased another $1000 eGift card. This card immediately gave me problems. After like 30 attempts I got it added to Apple Pay on three devices. However, payments failed with Apple Pay both in-store and online. I was able to add it to PayPal, but it required a charge and then credit of $1.95 to verify the card. (I did not have to do that with the previous two eGift cards.) It did work after that for PayPal transactions. However, using the card number directly failed almost everywhere, including at merchants I used the previous two cards at successfully. (It did work at a handful of merchants such as my insurance, and I was able to empty the card.)
Fast forward to 5/26. i bought a $200 eGift card. I was hoping whatever issues I had with the third card were resolved since then, but I ran into even more problems than I did with the 12/20 card. I wasn't able to add this card to Apple Pay at all. PayPal again required the $1.95 verification, and even *fewer* merchants accepted this card than any of the previous three cards.
I don't know if the issuer or processor changed. I assume it's all Amex, but I don't know.
I had trouble using this Amex GC at places where I could use a Visa/MC. Really not worth the stress.
Folks, if you don't know how to use, either ask or don't buy. complaining will not change how these cards work. I've been buying these cards for years and know how to use them.
They are not your regular credit/debit cards. So, apple pay/google pay/paypal/venmo or whatever else don't work.
If the total you're paying is more than available balance, it'll decline.
If you're making payiments to places where there's recurring charges/subscription, it'll decline.
Many places place temporary holds on cards you enter. It's a standard practice. It's usually not visible in credit cards. You will see that in these cards ranging from $0.10 to $1.00. They'll disappear in couple days.
Some easy ways to use them
-Buy amazon gift card worth balance.
-Pay phone or other utility bills. Don't forget to add up fees if any.

I used a card (I have 3) to pay GA Power and it went through. The following month, used it again but was declined. So, the problem is from Amex side. I can't even pay for a bag of oranges at Lidl.
I have e-gift cards. I tried to use either Paypal or Apple Wallet like the Amex rep told me when I called. They said I could just added the cards to my digital wallet. And said something along the long of "you can use them anywhere Amex is accepted" which is not true.
Where do you buy gift cards at AARP?
Filed dispute with Amex and with CFPB. Fingers crossed, but never will I buy these again! Thank god I hadn't bought these as actual gifts, or it would have been embarrassing!
