I've had good success with standard length Bosch spade bits and a 12 inch extension with a locking collar like this when I need it.

Less expensive and takes up less room than owning two sets of standard and extended length spade bits.

Using a separate extension with bits this diameter is probably a better bet, except for where the depth of your bore is deeper than where the collar starts.

These bits break easiest when they run hot all the way up the shaft, which is where having one longer continuous piece of metal to dissipate the heat might last longer.

With that said, you can easily snap these cold with the wrong drill. Setting the clutch low on a driver helps.

I saw those reviews too, bent or broken on first use. However, "daredevil " is in the name of the product so can't say they didn't try and warn us.

I've used mine to make like 6 bolt holes in treated 6x6 With cordless DeWalt. Had no issues and went through quickly and wasn't wobbly either.

I don't know what you normally pay for an extended length drill bit but $3 is the best price I've seen. A couple months ago I needed a 7/8 daredevil extended bit and it was $11, and worth every penny for that project.

Why do I need this? I got the 3/8" long bit recently in case I ever want to run UTP or cable, but not sure where I'd use a big spade bit like this.

The has almost always been $4 at Amazon if you look at its price history. Buy it if you like but this is no deal.

I have this and the Diablo equivalent, both work great. No issues with quality.

Thankfully Amazon has a great return policy.
