I need a 16x20x1 filter which is not on sale (like it seems many do when these get posted) that slides in right before the air handler. Can I get a 20x20x1 and just have it stick 4" out of its sleeve? Obviously it would look silly but it's in a closet.

just because it is dark does not mean it needs replacing. I think when it gets darker it is approaching a higher Merv, meaning the openings are getting smaller. Best way is to test a high Merv vs a low Merv that is dirtied and test the air flow.

Noob question, but in have an older AC unit that I was told not to use those high end filters with high MERV filteration. Is this suitable for older Units? If not, which one should I be getting?

I was able now to go and order the 20 x 20 filter. It is a basic one, but it's good for adding to my system and fans during forest fire season. And attaching to box fans to help clean the air.

Although still a good deal, regular price for me shows $34 for a 12 pack; not $72. These are basic filters. Thank you for sharing.
