Let be honest, this is not a $450 phone
Don't look at someone's phone and judge them if they are rich or poor. There are rich people with old cheap phones and there are definitely "poor" people who paid +$1k on phones and paying high monthly plans that they really shouldn't be.

Ummm. You do realize that the phone works during the first months with calls, texts and data? Some people would be happy to use unlimited data in that first month. All those apps, games, camera, etc. work with or without service. Lot of people use multiple phones. I do. Lot of people have lots of wifi outside their home especially with some cable service they may use.

* I have a Pixel 6a and I do like it but it has its cons. The battery life isn't that good and the screen is little bit too small at 6.1" for my liking for browsing chrome/youtube so I prefer to use my other larger screen phones with the big battery at home or my Samsung tablet at home when browsing chrome or YouTube. For me to use my Pixel 6a for browsing chrome/YouTube is wasting battery on a phone that already doesn't have solid battery life and just not that good of experience on 6.1" screen vs my larger screen phones. Answer? Large screen phone with solid battery or tablet.

* 6 months goes by quicker than you think. People aren't like upgrading their phones after every 2 months and it is "so needed" to upgraded from their phone. Patience is a virtue especially for Slickdealers who know a good bang for the buck phone deal or knows money saving tips on deals.
for those new to M deals.

read wiki

lots of good info

trust me

here is sample:

To have the phone unlock automatically in 180 days (6 months)

You need to have activated the phone 180 days ago.
You do not. repeat do NOT have to pay for service 180 days

the above has been true for most every metro deal in the past.
both apple and android

Most people get the 1 month service.
Then simply place phone in a drawer .
wait 6 months.

The sim can be left in phone or stored safely.
It does not matter, as long as you DO NOT THROW AWAY THE SIM until you get a confirmed unlock

Phone should/will unlock in ~180 days + 6 -10 days.

best chance of success as follows:
During the ~6 month wait.
YOU can use as wifi device.
keep sim in phone.
when getting near the 180 day , have phone connected to wi-fi.
Try to unlock the device, once 1-2 days from day 180 onwards.

- None of us knows when Metro is going to close this unofficial loophole, .
-However this has been in effect with Metro phone deals for last ~4-5 years

Exercise your own judgement,

OK, I just got my a54 for a Lil over a month. I got tired of waiting 5 more months and decided to put two of my t-mobile sims inside my two a54. Guess what? I'm getting 5G and it's working. It does lose data once or twice in a day. My fix was taking the sim out and putting it back in and 5G is back on.
interesting.

how bout calls? text?

many times data may work, but not sure of T & T.

Have you tried turning airplane mode off and on?

Calls work, text is also working. So far, my other a54 phone hasn't lost any data. The Sim has been in those phones for two days now.

Edit: u can make calls n text on both now. I had to factory reset the phones.

Yes and it doesn't come back on. I decided to take out my Sim and put it back in and it's been working great. My other a54 has been almost perfect . I just can't make calls but texting does work.lol

Correction, it can make calls now.

Xfinity claims A54 5G is eligible and worth $800 via bill credits for Samsung phones and $148 cash for iPhones, but then when I enter my IMEI, it says the IMEI isn't eligible for a trade-in. I don't know if it's just my IMEI or all Metro A54 IMEIs.
Not sure this was answered, been reading a lot of posts in the multiple Metro threads. And I think your post is about two weeks old so not sure if still relevant but...

It has nothing to do with phone being locked

Xfinity Mobile is on Verizon. Its 1am and this is all vague recollection but I recall reading that Metro phones need to be whitelisted to work on Verizon. And I think there is a trick by checking IMEI on Verizon site. Somehow looking up the IMEI with Verizon adds it to the whitelist.

Edit: Just did a very quick search to make sure my 1am brain is recalling something factual. Here is a thread that talks about it although with different carriers - principle still same - Verizon based : https://www.reddit.com/r/Visible/...whitelist/ (just try to not generate an order like the OP did) - it might work with just a compatibility checker.

Edit: I just reread the post and I was totally replying to the wrong issue. I was assuming you were trying to use the phone on Xfinity Mobile, but I should know better to not ass-u-me. Anyway I now realize you are trying to trade in the Metro phone to get the $800 bill credits but it wont accept it . Curious if you ever figured it out.

Anyone knows how to select a different USB connection mode. For other phones, you get a USB connection mode selection when you plug the phone to a Windows PC or a car with Android auto. This is not happening with A54 (probably other Samsung phones too). Even setting the the default USB configuration in developer options doesn't help. So I can't connect the phone to PC or Android auto. Any solution?

Added:
When I connect with a USB-C to USB-C to laptop USB-C port, I get a USB for file transfer notification. If I use the USB-A to USB-C cable, I only see a charging notification and there is no option to change it. My new Subaru Forester only have two USB-A connectors.

I noticed the line is not listed as a trade in option on the Samsung site but other similar models are

Interesting how it supposedly shipped before I placed order.
Actually placed order at like 2am this morning so surprised I did not get a shipping email today, 2 days shipping pretty slow but I guess they use Fedex Ground which does not deliver on wknds

Not Really a problem. I had told them you were going to order one which is probably why they shipped it before you order.

Tried a few type-A to type-C cables and most of them do not work. However, the oneplus 8 cable works just fine. Also tried two type-C to type-C cables followed by a type-C to type-A adapter and they both worked. Also I always get the charging notification but only get the changeable notification when there is a good connection. It appear that A54 is very sensitive to the quality/type of the data cable.

Called, rep said I can return using return label and call back to get $40 refundable - why do you think Ill have problems if I never activate it?

Edit: I think you may be right. I was reading the policy online and it says prepaid fees are non-refundable so rep was probably just yessing me

suggest:
leave in box. brand new. [consider not even open box]
wait 6m
sell as unlocked...for at least 200

imho:

never a good idea to return / cancel/ refuse delivery of any metro deals
