i gotta stop buying so many board games. i have a double wide book shelf full and more. i think i like collecting them more than i do playing them. send help.
Bought this a few years ago, my group and i played it about 5 times (each game takes like 3-4 hours so thats a lot of time invested). We all personally find it too frustrating to devote that much time to. Its lovecraft so naturally that means "incredibly hard and lots of ways to get screwed by luck or lack thereof." That being said, if can be fun if you know what youre getting into (i.e. a long game that you probably wont win). Personally, when my group invests that much time into a game, we would rather win more than lose, for a cooperative game anyway. Its definitely one of those games that has a lot of "moments" that you remember, like hey remember when you got stuck in Australia fighting those Australian skeletons? Good times. Stuff like that. Im iffy about it in case you cant tell but figured id give my two cents.

There is a lot of rules here and a lot of dice chucking. If you like dark lore, lots of rules, and chucking dice for luck - go ahead. Not my cup of tea though. Not much real "game" here except hedging risk.

I've had this game for a long time now with multiple expansions. It seems really overwhelming at first, but once you learn how the system works, it's easy to manage.
I've played this with groups and I've played it solo controlling multiple characters. It's pretty easy to get your money's worth of this price.
This is my wife and I's all time favorite game. Almost infinite replayability because the goals are different each game. The different investigators each have their own abilities and the items you obtain through the game modify those abilities even more. The expansions are really good too and make the game even more diverse. Takes a while to set up and there are a lot of different types of cards to keep separated while storing. Being able to solo play is great too!

I'm in the same boat! Especially when it comes to video games.

This is one of my favorite games as well. However, I think the game really shines with all the expansions which would be a pretty sizable investment beyond the base game.
Be aware it is a long game though, and you really have to keep people on track if you want a reasonable play time of around 2-2.5hrs.
Yeah, it's definitely a difficult game. We play once every 6 months or so and haven't won yet. We're very experienced board game players with 30 years each of playing complex games, and have been playing FFG's Cthulhu-verse games for a long time.
Last time we played we had 7 people and felt like we got lucky in terms of the baddie we drew, versus our characters, skills, items, and even lots of fortunate rolls. We still lost after 3.5 hours of playing.
We certainly have fun playing the game still, but be warned if you find it frustrating to not be able to win single-player co-ops.

You're not alone. Thankfully, most of the ones I end up buying, shelving and never playing are the deep markdowns to $5-$20.

It also takes about 3 hours to play. If you have a cat or kids, good luck keeping it together if you take a break for the night.
