Beware this bank uses every possible avenue to deny your bonus. They claimed ach transfers from my other non US bank accounts to this account weren't "new" funds or money

edit: mods, why did you remove my edit comment telling others that were telling me I did it wrong to go kick rocks!?!

It actually says "Direct Deposit," so transfers from one bank to another are not considered as direct deposits!

ACH or Wires = bank transfer.

Is there a way of doing this if you don't have a business and has anyone had any trouble closing the account afterwards?

Interest rates are high. They're raising capital to lend out for more money than they pay you for it. This is how banks work.

Which bank that doesn't suck?
Cathay Bank is reasonable. The downside is that their online banking feels like it's made in the 1990s, but the people at the branch really treats their customers well and give transactions human attention which made up for the deficiency. Sometimes they will call and let me know ahead of time when there's a big incoming wire. If you like talking to a human instead of the machine, then it's the bank to go.

Cathay Bank doesn't don't talk down to you like US bank. US bank's branch manager talked to me in a tone as if a boss is talking to their employees, saying that 'you are building a relationship with the US bank' whenever we complained about the stupid hurdles they put on new customers (such as a $500 mobile online check deposit limit, plus some monthly limit which I forgot, which means you have to manually deposit a check to a branch to satisfy the funding requirement for the signup bonus) is for you to build track record with them. US bank do not trust their customers and their branch managers shows that attitude.

US bank's terms are abusive and they abuse their discretion to terminate the relationship and they won't tell you the reason for 'security reasons'. I opened a merchant account with them (for the $500 bonus) and they unilaterally terminated the relationship after 2 transactions and clawed back the payouts for 90 days without warning and for absolutely no reason (there's no defect in the transactions. 90 days cleared and the loss prevention 'applied' to return the funds to me in a check, which they said it'd take 4~5 weeks, after 90+ days), and they are tight-lipped about the reasons (always citing security reasons). Since they terminated the merchant account within 90 days, they didn't give me the bonus either and I paid $58 for their damn card reader which I'd never get to use. US bank talks to customers as if they are thieves. Stay away from them. No matter how helpful the branch staff are, they are powerless in front of the back office. This bank is toxic. Stay away from them if your peace of mind is worth more than the signup bonus.

You need use your beta cuck energy to get these deals. You're commenting on a post bitching about not getting a deal when all of us are getting the deal. You unfortunately are the common denominator. I'm going to have to thank you ahead of time for my $500 bonus! Thank you!
When you get one, please let us know. You will then know what we all are talking about.

Sorry to hear it Frown From the 30 minutes it took them on the phone to unlock my new account it definitely doesn't seem like the most organized bank. On the plus side the CSRs are pleasant

They might be right, you need transfer from foreign bank than US bank to be considered as new fund...

All these negative comments. The actual holding period is 30 days if you can get the initial funding on the 30th day. Then you hold from 30 to 60 days

You must make new deposit(s) of at least $15,000 in new money deposits (Direct Deposits, ATM/Branch Deposits, Mobile Check Deposit, ACH or Wires) within 30 days of account opening and thereafter maintain a balance of at least $15,000 until the 60th day after account opening.

If anyone wants to do the math, it's 60% Apy.

(0.60*15000)*(30/365)
Your math is a bit suspect... the correct way to calculate this is (Total after bonus/Total before bonus)^(365/ hold period in days) so (15750/15000)^(365/30) = 81.05% or (5500/5000)^(365/30)=218.87%

Not bad for FDIC insured.

Didn't get the full account number so I called. Took 30 mins after jumping through hoops.

Once I was logged into my account, I asked if the promotion is valid on my account. Rep checked, saw a promotion linked to my application. Then I was told this promotion is being advertised by "some sites" on google and is NOT a valid US BANK promo code.

For this reason they won't be able to honor the promotion.

I thanked the representative (for saving me the trouble of hoping and waiting 2 months) and disconnected the call. Took 40 minutes.

Planning to transfer my money back to the source account and then close this one.

Lesson learnt - never attempting another US BANK account application again.

Call back and talk to a manager. Show them the US Bank website.

US Bank is a scam bank, they often deny checking sign up bonus promotions after customer is on board! Here's the copy of the letter they sent me when I inquired why I wasn't being credited with the bonus after 6 months of opening the account!
https://imgur.com/lIae4Nj

I replied their email, nothing resolved yet!
Hi Customer Care,
That's fine. However, as a customer, I deserve some transparency.

When I opened the checking account I confirmed the requirements with US Bank's Menlo Park Branch. I did the required direct deposits (2 3k deposits from my employer), maintained balance.

Few months ago, the branch confirmed that I completed all requirements (qualifying activities). They told me to wait 60 days. Then, 3 months passed and I contacted customer care online. The agent confirmed I completed the requirements, told me to wait a bit more and that it will be credited. I wasn't credited I contacted again, This time an agent named Karina opened a case (Ticket# 785937) and about two weeks passed since then. I got a paper mail that states that I don't qualify. I feel very much unwelcome.

If somehow this was communicated to me earlier I would very much appreciate it. I feel like I had been treated poorly over this promotional credit and that quite some of my valuable time has been wasted by the bank's agents, back office etc. My patience had been tested to its limits.

I extremely regret opening the account with your bank. Nobody, ever f'ing told me that the promo had fine prints like this that it has to be mailed to the customer while I visited the bank and when I talked to customer care. You guys cost me time. And, after 6 f'ing months you guys tell me that the promo had fineprints. What a scam bank!!!

I have attached the promotion flyer by the US Bank that I used to open the account for further verification.

Sincerely,
Deceived Customer (time wasted in vein)
