If you are looking for a CO2 tank and there are brewing supply stores nearby, you can get a 5lb tank for about $110-$150 probably. It will come filled for that price. My brewing supply store has 20lb tanks too but I don't have room for it.

When your tank is empty, you can sometimes bring it back to the brewing supply store and swap for a filled 5lb tank for about $10-$25.
Can't speak to flavorings, since I only like plain carbonated water... but if you want to save money, you're best off buying an external CO2 tank + hose adapter to hook this up to. Paying for CO2 tank exchanges through Sodastream is expensive. Note that the Terra and some other newer models use a "quick connect" method now, so if you are looking for such an adapter, make sure it is compatible with quick connect.

We live on San Pellegrino in our house-The glass bottles (by the case from Costco). I wonder how easily we could switch to this. Is it similar?
I tried both and it's not the same. You can taste the difference if you live off that.

Sodastreams that use the qd style pink cap CO2 containers will be nearly impossible to use your own external tank. If you're at all interested in refilling get a system that uses the blue cap tanks.

San Pellegrino is much better, they're not in the same league.

How many sodas u can make with this before refill ?
Supposedly each CO2 cylinder makes 60lt, ie 60 of its bottles. In practice it makes 40-45lts. Yes I've counted.

Nice deal. The normal starter with a single CO2 tank and bottle usually is on sale for $99. I paid that a bit over a year ago. Love it and use it daily.

Nope. They sell the pink style adapters now. I use it with my art model

They can be done but currently on Amazon they only sell the adapter which connects directly into the tank. You would need to get a hose and shutoff/release valve similar to the old style. Hopefully some seller will come out with it soon on Amazon.

But yes the blue canisters are much easier to refill the 60l cylinders.

Yeah, I went and purchased one less than two weeks ago because of that price, gave it a go per the instructions(cold water, etc.) and I absolutely HATED it. Returned it the next day.

It worked properly, I just like soda water level carbonation and it required bare minimum 5 pumps to come anywhere close to it(which means going through CO2 way faster than their standard 3 pump recommendation) and their bottles just seem to not do a good enough job of holding the carbonation if you don't drink it right away. And once you add flavor, you cannot go back for more carbonation. It will make an explosive mess of your kitchen. Plus you can't really recreate the slight mineral variations in some carbonated waters.

I just bought this 5 lbs tank [amazon.com] off Amazon for $80 shipped. I got it filled with CO2 from my local brewing supply place, and it only cost $19.50! I called other local places, like AirGas, but they were going to charge between $20-30 and they only did tank exchanges, so I would have lost my new tank and gotten an old one.

They have adapters now that make it much simpler. This is what I just got for my SodaStream Terra: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0B9XQGGZY/

If you didn't feel like you were getting good carbonation, you need to watch this instructional video [youtube.com]. Once I started doing it like this, carbonation has been perfect every time!
