Denon AVRs support Audyssey, which is Denon + Marantz's room audio correction system. There are 2 different levels, Audyssey XT and XT32, with XT32 being the higher level. This is baked into the AVR, so it cannot be upgraded. It's definitely worth running, to see if the acoustics of your particular room can be taken into account. It can be switched on and off if you hate the results. The higher end models allow for 2 different calibrations to be stored in the AVR, so you can switch quickly between the 2.
In addition to the Audyssey calibration you perform through the AVR's UI, there is also an app, MultEQ, available on both Apple and Android. This is $20. It allows for a much higher degree of customization than the AVR alone. It probably is worth buying if you want to tweak the settings more reliably.
On top of that, there is a Windows app, MultEQ-X. This is a fair investment @ $199, though sometimes it goes on sale for $149. This allows a ton of customization. For example, with newer models, you can re-run a calibration just for a single speaker if you change it or even move it to a different location. This price is far cheaper than any of the DIRAC add-ons that are available for the higher-level AVRs.
Very importantly, the computer app is LOCKED to a specific AVR, and your Microsoft userid. So you cannot transfer it to another Denon when you upgrade. You cannot move it from your userid to another. It requires another purchase. The phone app is not locked and you may use it with any AVR.
The best tip I learned, after it was too late for me, is if you choose to purchase MultEQ-X, is to create a specific Microsoft userid JUST for that app and AVR. That way, when you sell it, you can throw that in as a carrot.
Hope this is useful for some here.

First purchase didn't go through because Amex denied it. Okay, that's reasonable. After acknowledging the transaction through Amex, it went through the 2nd time.
Then Denon's fraud system sent an email to confirm it was a valid transaction. After authorizing that... still no record of the transaction on my account.
Spoke with customer service and the fraud needs to be double checked.
Oh well. If it falls through, congrats to whoever picks up the refurb 3800.
If it does go through, the big annoyance is the cashback site may/may not pick up on this as a successful transaction, which means that's $150 to fight over.
EDIT:: There's another thread on slickdeals and apparently this happened to a lot of customers. Fraud detection throws off the whole system and it's a mess.
EDIT2: New email this AM, 1 day later, confirms the transaction (again) and now it shows on my Denon account.
If so how was packaging & receiver condition?
Did the CB work out?

Receiver came well packed, looked basically new. Working well as far as I can tell. I had a 3600h so it's nice to see what's the same and what's improved. HDMI 2.1 is a definite upgrade I'll be benefitting from, with a HTPC and PS5. I've been paying attention to the Denon lines for the past couple of years so nothing unexpected. It was running the original firmware, just updated to the latest yesterday, which adds Auro3D to all height speaker configurations (also the DIRAC upgrade option). Previously you had to choose between Dolby ATMOS configs or Auro3D configurations.
CB shows as verified. There's a 60 day delay, so that you don't return it and get paid for free.
Only downside is I paid for the MultEQ-X for the 3600h, which is not transferrable to the 3800h. But at least I can use that to help the acoustics in the living room where it now lives, which is all hard surfaces with a vaulted ceiling.
I do have the smartphone app so I used that immediately on the 3800h.
Now just debating if the DIRAC upgrade is worth it, or should I stick with MultEQ-X. Or neither.

If all you did was replace the 3600 with the 3800 then you already know what the Editor app does as well as X in your environment.
There should be very little change if at all with the RC in that aspect.
If you were totally happy with X then go with it again, especially since it's cheaper and you don't lose bass management(especially if you have more than one sub).
On the other hand if you're not or want something new, Dirac might be a better option.
One main benefit of choosing the 3800 is the option for Dirac.
It's widely accepted it's better, you don't get their subwoofer RC(DLBC) though.
DL will calibrate a subwoofer and people often believe that it works for them.
Love my 6700.

I agree, the 3800 under $1k after coupon + CB is a pretty HOT deal!
Once it's new for under $1k(no CB) it may just be my time!
edit: meh - seems like parity
