I just return this same laptop to costco on Monday.

It gets hot like your palms will sweat when you gaming or use the gpu.
Battery will last about 3hours plus or minus a hour depending what you are doing. Playing games 2 hours. Watching a movie 4 hours. Office work 5-6hours.
The weight is actually a little heavier than 3.2lbs. My scale reads 3.8lbs.
I did have a problem with the screen going black randomly and not coming back on. Bios update fixed the issue. I paid $1200 so for $900 i might reconsider but the heat is problematic for me.

I bought this refurb a while ago and overall like this laptop a lot. It has some quirks that you should be aware of but if you're willing to invest some time, it could be a great laptop for you

Stock drivers and software were utter crap. I reinstalled Windows and downloaded the latest drivers from AMD and nvidia. This helped with performance, battery life and stability
Stock wifi card isn't great, can cause various issues. I replaced the wifi card with an Intel one, been solid ever since
Using the Extreme Performance profile and gaming, you can pull more than the 100w power adapter can provide. Cap your CPU frequency a bit and not only will it fix this issue, it'll give you more FPS in games. Use the Intelligent Cooling profile also helps avoid battery drain while plugged in. Capping the CPU helps a lot with heat in general
GPU has a mux switch. You can turn off the nvidia GPU in bios for a battery boost and less heat. I rarely game so its off most of the time
The speakers are junk but sound a LOT better with Dolby Access app which is free for this model.

You shouldn't have to do this for a new laptop at all. But the specs are good and the price is good. So far I haven't had any major issues with mine and I've owned it for 6 months now

Yes, that's correct. Also, you can get a Type-C to DP/HDMI cable and use it without any converter.
But normally when you plug your laptop to a bigger external monitor, normally it is in your home or in workplace, generally a fix area. For that what I would suggest is to get a decent Type-C hub with HDMI 2.1 or DP 1.4 output and at least 90W + Power Delivery. In that way, you will not only get the monitor connectivity without any converter or special cable but also additional ports like full sized SD Card Reader, USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports and even an extra Type-C data port. If you look for the deals, you can easily score one within 50 bucks from decent brands like Startech, Anker, Cable Matters etc.
One such example as below ($56 + 20% Amazon Clip Coupon)
https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matt...B095821QGP

That will give you 100W Power Delivery, HDMI 2.1 (4K@120Hz), 2x USB 3.0 Port, Gigabit Ethernet

Another is https://www.amazon.com/Multiport-...B09VGZWRL9
that will give you HDMI 2.1, SD 4.0 (Fastest UHS III Standard) Card Reader, 2,5G Gigabut Ethernet and 2x USB-A 3.2 Gen 2 10 Gbps Port.

Nice. Seems like it was $1299 at Costco so the price is great for the specs

Possible thermal throttling. Some reviews says this will use 100w or higher so if you run only on battery it's going to be pretty slow due to thermo and throttling when on battery. Can anyone confirm these high need 12th gen so suffer this

XPs 13 plus seems to have similar feedback

No, it won't. For that, the laptop needs to have physical USB4 port so that a firmware update can enable i. Sadly, this laptop doesn't have that. The 2023 refresh of this does have it though.

Disabling the nvidia GPU in bios will help with heat and battery by a lot. I get 8 hours. Use the Intelligent Cooling profile too. Capping the CPU a bit helps too. Its like they built this thing to look great on paper but it can't handle the load. Capping the CPU by a little bit helps a lot

Thanks. I was trying to disable the AMD gpu drivers but that just mess things up with touchscreen. I didn't try disabling the nvidia gpu and capping the cpu but like you said shouldn't have to do all this on a brand new laptop.

Guys, I bought my laptop in 2019 (below). Is this one significantly faster and worth upgrading to? Should I wait for one even faster? Evidently I only do this once every 4 years, so if I have to spend another $200-$300 more, that would be fine.

It's better in most ways but I'd try to get usb 4 if you're on a 4 year cycle and switching to tyzen. if you have thunderbolt connected devices that you use with your current Intel platform they probably won't work as well or at all with usb 3, but usb4 should generally be okay.
