Well, you do go back. Over the same part of the floor a few times.

The best cordless I've tested (V10?) is still well below our 10yo basic DC40 corded model on everything. They're great for portability and touchups, though. Dyson batteries can be spotty, but the 2y warranty helps.
Bought this about three years ago in a weird, Macy's Black Friday in July event for $199. It's a solid vacuum and it's definitely more powerful than the V8 cordless we have. I prefer to use this one when cleaning the whole house as opposed to quick touch up cleaning with the cordless.

Not sure if this one from Walmart comes with the same amount of attachments (a lot) that the Macy's variant did.
I have both. If I'm doing a quick clean up job or dusting, I'm using the cordless. If I'm vacuuming the entire room with carpet, there is no contest between my upright, corded Dyson and my V8 stick.

I enjoy them both for different uses. The stick simply doesn't have the pulling power of the corded vacuums and the batteries die quickly and take forever to charge but they are highly portable. The corded vac is big and heavy and you have to deal with the power cord constantly but it is powerful and lasts as long as you need it.

Stick vacs are great if you live in a very small space without carpet. Anything else and I'm very glad I have both.

How does this compare to other brands' corded vacuums?

Have this for many years on previously mentioned Macy's deal
- overall very good vacuum for hardwood floors and light carpets/rugs - suction is strong
- NOT meant for heavy carpets - the brushes already mentioned aren't powered but propelled by airflow - it's decent but not super strong
- for my use case better than traditional vacuum - handle can maneuver into tighter spaces and attachment changing is a breeze
- very durable - my wife is rough with appliances and this has survived over 5 years
- very self-serviceable - easy disassembly - broke the cord retraction mechanism once and it was easy fix
- filter is washable/reusable - maybe not true HEPA but it works fine
- dust canister is also easy to disassemble + wash out
- wire is a tad short compared to regular vacuum but the cord retraction mechanism is AWESOME
- has similar feel as using a central house vacuum system as you're just maneuvering the tube

We bought this from Costco a few years back. It's powerful, but my wife prefers the upright over this so it's now in the garage looking for a home. We use the ball upright and a Dyson cordless stick vac. With 2 dogs and 3 cats, Dyson's vacuums are running all the time in our house.
it's from costco, return it?

I think it's an advantage instead. A vacuum cleaner with too strong roller suction will pull out the dust and the fine fibers of the carpet itself. The carpet will visibly thin out over time.

Ok maybe I'm crazy but why not buy a commercial style vacuum for the same price? Or better yet a backpack style one? They got to be stronger and more durable. If any one knows better please correct or guide me!
A real commercial vac is not the same price as this. There are some vacs that will say "commercial" but they aren't, the real pro's are buying ProTeam, Sanitaire, Nilfisk, etc which are considerably more expensive.

So does this have a soft head that can be used safely on hardwood floors?

Very tempted to get this, but wonder if this means a new model is coming soon?

Any why is Dyson out of stock and they sell thru Newegg (where I first saw this) and Walmart and they have it in stock…

Recieved and tested...using on throw rugs and wood floors...the suction is very strong and will lift the rugs off the floor. Very happy with the ease of use.

Design on this looks so bad, I mean why is the handle on the side instead of the top!

Is the suction on this better than a dyson animal (the upright that's often on sale)? Doesn't seem likely but wondering. Mostly hardwood and low pile carpet floors.

I've never really understood canisters vs uprights (after 1975) but a lot of people swear they're better.
My Electrolux canister has been the best vacuum that I have owned. It is a workhorse. We have an LG zero and it is convenient, but will only last a few minutes.
