I got LAX to Sydney via Fiji for $790 last week. I don't think it's gonna be much cheaper to get two separate tickets.

Btw, try trip.com . It was about $100 cheaper there. There is also an option to upgrade tier to Value which includes a checked bag for about $100 extra. The ticket was legit. I used the booking number to choose seats on Fiji website and checked that everything was in order.
They are supposedly the largest travel agency in the world (based in China), but as with any third party agent, there are a lot of scare stories. Specifically for Fiji, I think they're good because they seem to have good access to the airline. I compared A LOT OF sellers for the Fiji tickets; very few allowed choosing the tier(lite vs value vs premium), and trip.com allowed it.
They say to expect the ticket within 24h but I received it in a few minutes. I used the booking number to look up my ticket on the airline website, where it confirmed everything was in order and gave me full control on any add ons just like buying direct from the airline. That's why I think they're fine for Fiji atleast.
When buying on trip.com, right before paying, they have an add on for priority support for about $10. I chose that, as the most common complaint for third parties is poor customer service.

probably cheaper flight from Fiji to Australia than LAX/SFO to Australia so you get to visit two countries and pay cheaper flights

Do you have any experience with trip.com? Are they reliable?

I hate the only cheap international flights I ever see are CA and NY. If anyone sees a new Orleans or ATL deal holler at me! Lol
