the Story of How the Rich and
Powerful Hide Their Money

ChatGPT
"The Panama Papers: Breaking the Story of How the Rich and Powerful Hide Their Money" is an investigative journalism project that exposed a massive global network of offshore accounts used by the rich and powerful to evade taxes and launder money. The project was initiated by the International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ) in 2016. The leak, consisting of 11.5 million documents from the Panamanian law firm Mossack Fonseca, was obtained by the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung and shared with the ICIJ.

The leaked documents revealed the involvement of numerous politicians, celebrities, business leaders, and criminals in setting up offshore companies and trusts in tax havens such as Panama. These entities were used to conceal assets, avoid taxes, and engage in illicit financial activities. The investigation implicated prominent individuals from around the world, including heads of state, government officials, and influential figures in various industries.

The revelations of the Panama Papers had far-reaching consequences. Several high-profile resignations occurred, and investigations were launched in numerous countries to uncover the extent of tax evasion and money laundering facilitated by offshore accounts. The leak also led to discussions about the need for global tax reforms and increased transparency in financial systems.

Overall, the Panama Papers shed light on the complex and secretive world of offshore finance, exposing the mechanisms through which the wealthy and powerful exploit offshore jurisdictions to hide their wealth and manipulate the global financial system.
Wrong, it was quite insightful. The oligarchs learned a lot from this and found new, better ways to hide their money.

I just finished this as an audiobook last week and it was pretty fascinating. Worth it to understand how the rich and corrupt get away with things.

Daphne Caruana Galizia, Never forget. Live in the knowledge that your life is completely disposable to the type of people named in the Panama Papers.
