Cloud storage based. Paperweight when the company dies

Been digitizing a bunch of photos for family members, these frames have worked very well as gifts to display them. It does pass through their service, but has been relatively reliable over the past year+ (only one outage of about a day). It can tap into a google photo album, along most of the other cloud based storage options. It also has a decent set up process along with some remote settings options. You can definitely go cheaper, but this is a good option if you have the budget for it.

That is also a good reason to buy it from Costco given their generous return policy. Just save the receipt and I would bet if the frame company went under in five years Costco would replace/refund you.

I doubt it because it's electronics. I would be surprised if they covered it beyond 90 days of their return policy for electronics.

Bought one on a whim for my parents for Christmas. Works awesome. My parents love how easy it is to upload photos as well as being able to add people to upload photos as well. Screen is sharp and bright. Overall great buy.

This is a time the fine print is beneficial to the consumer, because if you read the details here:

It does not indicate electronic photo frames fall under the 90 day policy. One other thing is you can return it at any time, which of course is a bit different than a warranty.

Everyone is missing the draw of these frames. Yea you can setup other devices to do the same thing, but adding and removing photos is super easy and convenient from your phone anywhere. On iPhone photos app its just share-> Aura and its done. You can share the account from a grandparent frame to multiple people to upload individually, and also upload to multiple frames in one go. My parents can easily figure this out and add photos on their own. I'm very tech savvy, and I have no desire to explain some hack to use a google photos album for people to share to and such. This is plug in and done. I'm hoping the company doesn't go under, but its a small gamble with any cloud device.

The unit looks nice, the screen is bright and crisp, and the app interface is simple and works well. No complaints, especially for $100. Trying to add frames to my Echo Show 15 is a PITA compared to the Aura.

just buy a raspberry pi and a cheap monitor then run a magic mirror on it
instead of the Ras Pi, you can buy an android TV stick... for example GG ChromeCast, Amz Fire stick...

I would prefer using Google Hub Max which is 10 inches and can do tons of other cool things. (Privacy is a myth)

Got this and the only thing im bummed about is that it doesn't do portrait photos side by side like some of their other frames. You'll have to crop the photos in app to make sure they display correctly.

Yeah real easy for grandma.

I did a bunch of research on these and went with Aura. It's been great over the years and multiple family members have purchased the same. Easy to have everyone on the same app and they continue to add new features even for older frames.

No limit as of yet, but as notated above with these service based frames, there is never any guarantee. At $99 it isn't a huge investment for me, and by the time I hope/think a service issue might creep up I'll want to upgrade anyway.
At 99 and other similar prices (if not higher) for digital frames, why not just get a Google nest device (if you're already using GA in your home or phone).

I heard the pictures there are very good.

Exactly. They will stop working when all of the venture capital money is gone.

Or cite it asa technology item subject to the term limited return period. I agree there's an argument to be made there for a company rendering it useless, but I could see the manager going either way.

They have these in warehouse say my local one but I didn't note how much cheaper they were

Funny story is I did that initially for my in-laws, but it bricked itself in the first week. I actually have a couple of the smaller ones that have worked reasonably well, but not as nice looking as the aura display in my opinion.

What generations are using this kind of thick digital frame?

The generation that walked uphill both ways to and from school.
