I got one from woot not even a year ago. It works fine other than some rattles that comes and disappears 2% of the time. I used it as a heater too.

This operates around 300 watts most of the time. Very efficient.

I wanted to buy a second one but not for $350. It was $299 not even a year ago.

I live in a 750 square ft apartment in Denver CO. I don't care about the heat or dehydrator functions. I only need AC. is this a good deal in my situation or should I explore other AC units. please advise. thanks!

How's the heat pump in these models? Good for Missouri winters to supplement propane for small home?
I gave this exact model to my father who lives in an area where it drops into the low 30s high 20s in the winter, we found out that the heater stops operating when the temperature drops under ~40ish degrees give or take a few degrees. I believe this is to protect the internals of the heat pump, but its not going to be able to crank out heat a freezing temps. Great if you're chilly in socal I suppose. The cooling portion is great though!

If you have the option to use a window AC, then those will be significantly smaller, quieter and more efficient. Only use a portable AC if you absolutely need to due to window shape or whatever reason as they are objectively worse than window AC units in almost every way.

THAT BEING SAID, this is one of the best most efficient portable AC designs you can buy as it has the newer inverter compressor along with the dual hose form that keeps the tube a more normal ambient temp vs super hot and reheating the room you are trying to cool. Its very clearly a rebrand of the midea DUO which is the cream of the crop on terms of portable AC units. I'm buying a 2nd one right now because I gave my first one away. nod

I went to buy one of these from Craigslist ad. The ad said the air-conditioner came with a free box of girl scout cookies. When I arrived, I was greeted by a Girl Scout. She took me to the air conditioner. After looking it over i adked to test it. Well, it was about that time I noticed the girl scout was about eight stories tall and was a crustacean from the paleozoic era!

I was scared so I asked the monster, "What do you want?"

The monster looked down at me and said," I need about tree fiddy."

I responded, "I ain't givin' you no tree-fitty for a refurbished air conditioner, you goddamn Loch Ness Monster! Get your own goddamn money!"

I got one of these last year for $300, but I also have a Midea U-shaped 8,000 BTU window AC.

Portable AC Pros:
- Inverter driven variable speed compressor can ramp down to around 290 W for better efficiency.
- Dual hose-in-hose so doesn't create negative pressure like single hose units which sucks in outside hot air.
- Can be installed in horizontally sliding windows with included adapter, or if HOA doesn't allow window ACs.
- Has heat pump mode but it only operates down to 41F.

Cons:
- While it's fairly quiet when operating at low speed, it's quite loud on high.
- Air sealing the window panel is difficult so heat, humidity and noise will leak in.
- Condensation is supposed to be evaporated out the exhaust, but in high humidity it can still build up and cause the unit to stop. The drain is only around 1" from the floor, so I put it on a pedestal and hooked up a condensate pump.
- Uses up to 1450 W and it even makes my LED lights on the same circuit flicker.

U-Shaped Window AC Pros:
- Very quiet and energy efficient. Also inverter driven so the 8,000 BTU model can ramp down to just 100 W.
- ~3" window opening is much better sealed and the compressor is outside, so much better for heat, humidity and noise. Condensation is also routed to the outside.

Cons:
- Trickier installation with the bracket.
- No heat pump mode.

So if you are able to use a window AC, I would recommend it over these portable units.

Ahh....I got over last year and was waiting for it to go on sale again. I just bought the 10k Danby from Costco 3 days ago for $389. Even though I like the Toshiba, I think I'll keep the Danby since it's new, hopefully had better shipping then woot, and basically to save me the trouble of lugging it back to Costco.

The ac works great, the heater wasn't as effective though on this Toshiba.

Consider the Midea app since that's the OEM. It works natively.
Thanks, good suggestion

Multiple listings saying these are brand new. So if it's such an issue than I will return my 100% used one and keep this one.
Simple solution. Tell Home Depot your plan to return the refurbished on instead of the one you bought from them. If they are OK with it go for it, if not, don't do it. If you feel the need to hide that detail from them it's fraud.

If the returned unit has a different serial number on it and it is flagged by toshiba as refurbished then you could really be screwing the next person who buys it thinking it is new.

I just bought the Danbury from Costco also, but will not set it up until it is hot here. Since you own both Danby and Toshiba, how does the Danby perform vs Toshiba in cooling? Which is more quiet?

I have but opened it yet. I expect to use it next week when it warms up though. It's been cloudy the past 2 weeks here in So Cal.
