Hi...

So I have my mortgage (held by JPM) on autopay with Citi. On May 2, they took money out and... sent a check to JPM. But JPM says they never got it. They did get the checks from Apr 2 and Jun 2. My account is marked past due/delinquent/whatever the term is.

Credit agencies all ding me for this, even though I did everything right, and the money was taken out of my account at the correct time. I can't control Citi's check printing, the USPS delivery or JPM check processing. At this point, nobody knows where the check is.

Even worse, they marked May as overdue. Then when they got the Jun payment, they applied it to May, so now June is overdue. I missed one month, but I'm marked delinquent on TWO payments. What kind of stupidity is this.

How do I fix it??? Any help greatly appreciated!!

Something is not adding up here. If the bank sent a paper check to your mortgage holder and they never got it, then the money should still be in your account, so just pay the bill and whatever penalties manually to get the mortgage up to date and cancel payment on the check\put a hold on it. If your bank is deducting the payment before a check is cashed, then you should have a conversation with your bank and start looking for a better bank to do business with imo.

That said, if you are going to use Bill Pay\paper checks to pay things such as mortgages by paper check, you should do so enough in advance so that if something goes wrong (USPS loses it, bank screws up) you have enough time to check on it and address it imo. Also should set up an alert with your mortgage company a few days prior if the bill is not paid. That or just set up auto pay with your mortgage company and have them pull the money directly from your account.

My 2 cents.

Well I guess why are they sending paper checks I pay my mortgage each month and they send the money electronically no paper check.
You forget that you are at fault the post office can lose your check but they do not guarantee they will not lose a letter.

When you first became away you should have sent in 2 payments then contacted them and explained the situation and see if they would remove the ding.

Get your account up to date and then contact them about recognizing that it was an honest mistake and see if you can then get it reversed.

I missed a first payment when I refinanced and it stayed on my credit report for quite a while but it did not really reflect my score.
