I agree. However I last had my oil changed 6300 miles ago, went into get it changed and valvoline told me the oil still looks brand new and to wait to have it changed.
That surprised me.

Beware that oil color doesn't tell if it is good or bad. I ve seen oil with no washer additives which stays clear until the end.

Does the manual say to follow the on board indicator? Then yes.

I never said to change at a specific interval, I said defer to the manual and to actual engineers who built the car. If the car says to change it when the indicator says so, then do so.

Why is it so contentious to say "Follow the manual"? I see a bunch of old people set in their ways, covering their ears saying "NAH! I KNOW BETTER".

Manual says every 10k? Sure. Manual says follow the on board indicator? Sure. Anything else?

does this work at any Valvoline location with the link above locator? I was told 1 time by my house that it only works with "corporate" locations not "franchises" which apparently the closest one to me is far away....

Agreed, everyone should follow their manufacturer's owner's manual recommendation for the oil change interval. Typically these days most cars have a service reminder light as noted in the owner's manual. I would trust the owner's manual/service reminder light versus experience, the dealer or any lube mechanic, after all the engineers who built the engine know most about the durability and internal mechanisms of the engine.

BTW the owner's manual is that booklet in the glove compartment of a car.

Wow the prices are all over the place. I guess it depends on your car and where you live.
You are lucky to live in a nice place like Oregon that takes your oil with the recycling.
The closest AutoZone for me is 8 miles away and the county dump where they take recycled oil is even farther. Ido my own oil changes too, but it is a PIA to recycle the oil and I have to store it for some time until I go there.
