Did "Ryobi Days" get you into the platform?

I recently switched to the 18v line for my yard tools.

I have been wanting the chain saw, and the pole saw... and have been watching for a deal separately. This seems fair for the pair. I wish the saw could just attach to the pole so you only need one saw! Ryobi - you listening? I'm in at this price. I am lazy about pruning and tree maintenance. This will make it a quick grab and go.

Can confirm, the fuse on mine went out and it is a pain to access. Namely that you have to drill out 2 rivets on one of the end connectors and add rivets back when you re-assemble. While mine was apart, I just ran straight wire all the way through the rod and moved the fuse outside of the rod and tucked it inside the motor housing, right before it connects to the motor. I also used a standard 2-prong automotive fuse that I can pull out and replace if it blows again without having to rewire anything.

As far as the power is concerned, I have this one, the 18V with the auto oiler, and the 40V 10" (also has an auto oiler) and while the oiled ones run faster, this one is nearly as good and I don't have to carry oil with me. Plus I can put it inside my truck if it's raining, and it doesn't leak oil everywhere. I use it to chop down some pretty big, old/dry oak and cedar limbs on my ranch. It cuts through everything just fine.
Watched a lot of video tests. Seems ok if you respect its limitations. I did discover there is an inline 'barrel fuse" in the part (rod) that the pole saw it attached to. Seems to be the common problem if these die. Replacing the fuse can be done (soldering required) - but its hard to disassemble. Agree - for light use.
I made a YT video about replacing the fuse, it really is a stupid design, but after I replaced the fuse, the saw has been going strong for over a year since. It is definitely not underpowered. You aren't felling trees with it, it is used for trimming overhead branches. That being said, I have no issues cutting through the entire length of the blade.

Arrived today. No oil reservoir on either. No blemishes that I can see - other than the box beat up badly. FedEx conveniently didn't capture any part of the box in the "delivered" photo. Items seem fine however.

Mine arrived today. This is a great saw. I live in the middle of the woods with about 3 acres cleared out around my house. Had some low hanging limbs. Some 6" in diameter. Worked flawlessly for this. I have a Kubota lawn tractor with the black bar that I have to be able to mow around the woods/yard. I used loppers for the small stuff hanging and worked for 2 hours on the battery and it never died once. So far I'm impressed. I haven't used the chainsaw yet. Mine looked new in box in the original packaging.

I have the pole saw. I bought it to trim tall decorative trees and it didn't work that well. The saw would push the tree branches around and I was not able to make clean stable cuts. I just got a ryobi lopper for that purpose. That said, if you have thick stable branches, the pole saw would work well.

Understood. I have a decent amount of large items to take out. I am waiting in the weeds for a lopper deal. Did you find anything? Prefer the extending one...

Directtools has the extendable lopper for $115 or $130 with 2Ah battery, $15 shipping.

I've had this for almost three years now, got it super cheap not expecting much. I have a fairly big yard with a ton of trees and use it often. I've abused it time and time again and I'm not very good at maintaining tools. Still running strong, no issues. Would and do recommend, I plan to buy it again when I finally manage to kill the one I have.

this is definitely a splurge unless you 'need' it. I don't have problems with not being brushless, but my use is light enough I could just use one of those loppers/saws they sell everywhere.

Thing I don't like, that chainsaw can get bound up easily if you just saw through some smaller branches/brush. There's a large gap to fill up. Not exactly it's intended use when I stick it into my yard waste bin full of stuff to make it into smaller stuff, but at least it's easy to clean out when you figure it out.
Saw works great for me for larger branches, sounds like a possible user error.

Anyone know what brand makes the best 18-20v polesaw? Is the DeWalt one any good? I'm tied into that battery eco system.

I've had the DeWalt pole saw for 2 years now and have been very happy with it. Even used it yesterday to cut some branches next to the house. It cuts through good size branches with no hesitation. And the battery lasts a good while. Biggest peeve with it is if you don't empty the oil reservoir, it will leak oil while being stored no matter which direction it's facing. For reference, I bought it on sale with the battery from Acme tool for $170.

I've not tested this, but I've seen some people say to open the oil reservoir momentarily after you're done using it, to break the vacuum pull that was going on while it was running and could be continuing afterwards. Then retighten it. See if that helps.

Thanks, I'll see if it helps. I did figure out how to lay the DeWalt chainsaw without leaking but had no luck with the pole saw. Or the Husqvarna. You think that at least make a pour spout to empty the reservoirs when you're done instead of just making a mess.

My Husqvarna gas chainsaw does that too, but not sure if it's just oil dripping off of the chain or if it runs out of the reservoir. Most times I loosen the oil cap and then retighten to release the vacuum, but haven't paid a lot of attention to it to see if that helps.

How often have you oiled and where? Manual indicates two oil points under black cover. I was going to just manually oil the chain periodically.

Just tried it out on a tree. It was great! Done in 20 minutes - and didnt break a sweat! No cord is amazing.
