You might be right overall but for this chassis, 11th gen is preferred choice over 12th due to battery and heat management

I know people are shutting on the 11th gen CPU, but it's all a matter of perspective. If you need a true workhorse you'd want something more powerful, yes. But I bought a pair of these via EPP (16/512 model with the i7) for my mom and her husband a couple of months back for around $900 each, and they are perfect for their average person use case. They are small, thin, light, with outstanding build quality and are plenty fast enough for browsing, email, office, and the few special applications that they use. I don't have to worry about them falling apart on them, and through EPP the 3 year accidental damage warranty is stupidly cheap. They also have the best laptop keyboards I've ever used in my 30 year IT career, period.

Now would I buy one for myself for my gaming or development needs? Not this spec, no. But for general Windows use and high portability there's pretty much nothing that beats an X1 Carbon, especially if you can get it with 16GB for $900 or less.

And FWIW, I bought my wife a Gen 5 X1 Carbon when she was in college five years ago and it still is running strong and gets regular use, and never had as much as a hiccup.

If you're after raw power or gaming, the Asus Zephyrus G14 for $800 on the front page is a better deal. But this one isn't bad for certain scenarios.

I am still using a 2016 X1 Carbon 4th Gen (i7 16GB RAM). It still performs like new and with a $25 aftermarket battery replacement it goes all day without the need to be plugged in. It's the best laptop I've ever owned, no contest.

So I've had a hard time justifying replacing it, but as my camera has upgraded to 47mp and I'm editing these massive RAW files, its age starts to show, with pauses as it processes files. What specs should I be looking for as a replacement? I'm willing to set a deal alert and wait for a bargain, even until next Black Friday.
