Having experience with both, unless you have a fairly large open layout, you may be better off going with the 580's.
There really isn't any significant advantage for the extra $200+ cost in those environment.
Another thing to consider is the matching center 520c being a very weak link.
Alternatives can be a challenge.
One is the Infinity RC263 but it's been hard to come by.
Another might be the new series 6 center 665c

1. R11 Metas
2. Linton 85s
3. R700
The R11 being also the most expensive is also the best speaker of the bunch. Measures extremely well but more importantly is the best overall sounding speaker. It has great bass extension, best imaging of all the speakers, and the sound stage is probably only second to the Lintons. Its sound is more focused and detailed than any other speaker Ive heard...
The Lintons I put above the R700 because of its wide dispersion but able to maintain detail especially in the mid ranges like the R700. The biggest difference I heard between the R700 and the Metas is the latter having much better high frequency refinement. If HT is predominantly what you use your speakers for the R700 or 590s would be a much wiser choice than the Metas.
Vocals on the Lintons is amazing. It sounds like the singer is in the same room as you buuut it crushes/overwhelms some of the background instrumentals as a result. To me at least its the least neutral sounding speaker but that can be somewhat fixed with EQ. Ive heard some people say the sound of the Linton is warm... I couldn't disagree more. To me its the brightest speaker of the bunch and is the most fatiguing.
However, it does retain that vintage sound that most people attest to. It does for me as well and for that reason I kept them. I also paid 1200 for them making them also the cheapest of the three.
I returned the R11 because at the end im not the most analytical listener in the world. To me it wasnt worth the 5K premium over the other two speakers even though it is without a doubt the best of the bunch. The only one that was comparable are the Revels but I returned those as well.
I kept the R700 because it was the jack of all trades and my wife would NOT let me get another pair of 590s. She hates how they look. I paid 1600 for the pair but it is absolutely NOT double the performance over the 590s at 740 dollars. If you want something that is unequivocally better than the R700 in everything, you will need to pay something in R11 or F226Be range (3-4x cost).
