On my RG35XX, I installed Garlic OS and downloaded my own library of ROMs as most online sources recommended. There's no rhyme or reason with the included roms, they're a garbled mess of random languages and dumps.

Every review also says to replace the garbage micro SD that comes with the device as well. You can actually create your own micro SD with Garlic OS and your own ROMs before you even get the device. Just plug and play once the unit arrives.
I bought this 2 years ago when this was a clear winner for price to performance, but the retro-handheld space has blown up where that is no longer the case, even at this price. This does not have bluetooth, wifi, or hdmi-out. Anything past ps1 is hit or miss, but found only handheld emulation (gb, gbc, gba) legible on the 3.5 inch screen. This is a clear winner for GBA lovers, since the 3:2 inch screen is a perfect aspect ratio match. If I were to buy a retro-handheld today, I would get the powkiddy X55, which has great community software, hdmi-out, wifi, bluetooth, larger screen, and better performance, for under $100. Both are best when flashing a custom OS to an SD card , and would pass if that's not something that sounds fun to do.
Can't keep up with all the retro portable devices hehe.

Already got

Steamdeck
Switch unpatched
RG35XX (2)
GPI case
DSi XL
Ds Lite

Do I need another??? 🤔

I don't know what any of those words or numbers mean, sorry.
You said you installed garlic OS so I assumed you knew what it was.
The 3588 is the latest system on a chip from rockchip rk3588
It is much more powerful,
Rock pi5 is a sini board computer using that chip, like a raspberry pi 4 but a lot more powerful.

Batocera is Linux distro design for emulation.

What am I missing?? .... a cell phone does everything these things do (better) and more...
Not everything...cellphones don't have physical controls. Good luck having any kind of good time playing retro games with on-screen controls.

Any retro set top game consoles that people recommend? All I see are handheld.
For set top you can pretty much use anything, it just depends on how much processing power you need. I have emulators for 8-bit stuff on my Chromecast. Many old game systems can be hacked to emulate other systems, I use a hacked Wii to emulate old stuff on a CRT, since the Wii has analog outputs. If you still want to stay tiny but want more power, go for a Raspberry Pi. If you need more power than that, get yourself a small used PC. There's a Youtuber called ETAPrime who has a lot of videos about older PCs that you can pick up cheap that work great for emulation.

Can you PM me the link to a good ROM site? Been trying to play the classic "ghost in the shell." Unable to get retroarch to get the game working

I really like the ergonomic of RG351P. You stated that you can install garlic OS and download your own rom. Can I install garlic OS in the RG35xx? Also, Can you share the link to a good ROM site? Been trying to play the classic "ghost in the shell." Unable to get retroarch to get the game working. I tried all of the emulator bios from retroarch. Thanks in advance.
