Yep the i5 doesn't have a dedicated GPU. This IS a productivity workhorse though. Compare to Surface devices of the same form factor and this is a deal, but the i5 is really not a specific gamer tablet / 2 in 1... unless you buy the external proprietary GPU from Asus. Then well maybe this is preferred as battery life will be much better with this i5 and no dedicated GPU. To each their own! Smilie

I'm been watching these from my own interest and this year's version (2023 vs this deal is the 2022) has been released with a 13th gen i9 and a 4050 or 4060 along with a very nice screen. From the power optimization and frame generation (where applicable...) of the 40 series GPU if looking at these as a serious tablet / laptop for next few years I personally would look to the 2023 version. It will also help with resale value later on since they are rocking 13th gen vs 12th gen. One easy way to tell them apart is by the kickstand accent color. The 2022 is red/orange and the 2023 is black. Also one thing that made me twitch seeing it on the 2022 version that was fixed in the 2023 version is the see-through bump out window sticking up. With the 2022 version if you place it on its backside where the window is it is all wobbly and uneven. On the 2023 they made it flush to the back so it doesn't wobble.

I believe they have an eGPU dock for this model.

"XG MOBILE SUPPORT - Connect to the XG Mobile eGPU and docking station to turn your convertible into a workstation. The XG Mobile is smaller than typical eGPUs, but harnesses more power thanks to increased bandwidth. Sold separately"

That dock costs $1300+ for a RTX3080/6850m xt, both of which are mobile laptop gpu. Considering the entire 6900hx+6850mxt+32+1t Alienware 17" only cost $1k, the dock is really not cost efficient

FWIW, the 6850 xt XG Mobile is $799, they lowered the price before they released the ROG Ally.

I get your point, but that Alienware is a 7+ lbs behemoth of a laptop. This is a lightweight tablet that has the option to turn into a docked gaming desktop. The most cost efficient gaming PC is (almost) always a desktop anyhow. If you want a mobile device, you're gonna have to pay a premium for performance. This is a niche device, for sure, but if you want something ultra portable during the day and a gaming machine at night, seems like this'll get you there (though if I were getting one of these, I'd rather the one with a 3050 in it).

Price is fair but still a dumb configuration. It's in no man's land and that the problem.

If you want a surface, no one will be looking at this style, nor will they want it.

If you're a gamer, even light one, this makes no sense.

The only saving grace is to find a BARGAIN and that'll make you feel good. While $879 is not expensive, it no bargain and still in no man's land.

Compare this to the ZenBook 14x recently on sale for $799 and this still falls flat.

The ZenBook 14 with i9 + RTX 4050 MSRP is $1499..give it a few months or less, and it'll be on sale for close to 1k..

Laptops are getting even more competitive than ever, with Asus themselves creating competition alone. Throw in the other brands and you've got a consumer paradise of options and 2023 will be an epic year for price drops.

I honestly have no idea what asus is doing by keeping the price of the 32gb ram models so high. All the price discounts are for the 16gb models.

Like the zenbooks have thunderbolt 4. It's cheaper to buy a external dock and throw in a gpu. Especially, with this no dedicated gpu model.

Technically, Solitaire is a game. And you can play it on this laptop.

No dGPU + MUX-switch like its cousin the X13? Ooof..

That's pretty rough at this price point, but I will absolutely concede that with those specs this is better than a Surface Pro 9..

*If you want a Surface Pro 9 for the form factor with detachable keyboard, with better cooling and better specs: get this Z13*, otherwise I would not recommend it as a true gaming laptop.

As another SD member said, this will be a productivity work horse, it will tackle your Office Suite, programming compiler, occasional Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, you know, pretty much anything that doesn't require a dedicated GPU.

For reference, at $830.99: Surface Pro 9, 8GB RAM, 256GB SSD, No keyboard included, worse cooling, etc.

instead of getting an overpriced, mediocre tablet and an overpriced gaming desktop in one...
just get a good tablet and a desktop with a good gpu - two separate devices. probably for the same price as this tablet + a external gpu

Different devices for different people. You can take this tablet and the XG Mobile with you pretty easily and game in a hotel room if that's what you want. Harder to do that with a desktop. Again, this is a niche device - if you're looking for efficient gaming power per dollar spent, desktop wins out. If you want portability, you have to make compromises.

they really messed up by giving it an intel CPU, should've used a RYZEN like the FLOW X13

it has terrible battery life for a tablet
