that is correct. however, you can choose 'main cabin, regular economy' if you want to choose seats.

Even though it is a technical possibility they do try to keep people together. The wife and I have only been split up on a flight once in the last 5 years or so, and we were on just across the aisle from each other.

Yeah which is why I feel like posting flight "deals" using the Basic Economy price is cheating. I've noticed the travel tips blogs and websites advertise BE as featured articles a lot lately too.

For a light solo traveler that doesn't care where they sit, it's good.

For pretty much everyone else it usually means upgrading to Economy. Which may or may not be a deal compared to historic average price.
