Xbox looks to be phasing out Xbox Live Gold and offer a new Gamepass Core level.
$10/month or $60 annual for Online MP and a collection of Gamepass games.
This would eliminate the Xbox Live stacking/Conversion deal.

You keep all your previous games with gold as long as you stay subscribed.
The games with gold haven't been very good for a few years, so this might be a better option going forward.
The biggest impoact for a lot of people is converting Xbox Live gold to Gamepass Ultimate and this would be kill that deal.
