But the prices after discount are still way better than Adidas.com. That's why I never bother to buy their discounted GCs, as they are pretty useless.

The only places I've seen Adidas cheaper is Goodwill.
Source: I lost ~30 lbs since the beginning of the year and had to buy a whole set of new clothes. Discovered Adidas at Goodwill and bought from Adidas.com because sizing is consistent and color palettes are easy to mix and match.

Stock is usually the same across all three aside from adidas.com exclusives
Today it's price jacked up to $28 .
It's slightly more than the last deal of 40% off so not really a good deal.
I'd imagine there will be a decent back to school sale coming up soon.

Forwarding you to the app rather than the website is the intentional choice of the app developer. This is very common these days because if they can get you on the app they can track your shopping habits better. That's is why businesses offer you app only discounts. You don't actually think companies just give 10% discounts on the app for nothing, do you?
Remember: when something online is "free" then YOU (technically their ability to get info so they can influence your shopping habits) are the product.
The Home Depot, Kroger, and many other apps do the same thing.
The 5% is the outlier, not the 95% so it's actually kind of amazing you got it to 'work' 5% of the time.
