Basic physics say they're very inefficient. All the air needed to cool down the unit (the air that goes out the window) is taken from the house. In order to get that air from the house, new warm air from outside has to come in. The room where the AC is may be freezing, but that means in some other place in the house is most likely getting warmer.

Stay away from single hose portable ACs.

I used a single hose for like 10 years. It's fine until you use a dual hose or an Inverter. I bought a portable 10K inverter this year and it's night and day difference.
But I would never tell anybody how to spend their money or what to be happy with, but I'm happy with my new one.

Every time there's a portable AC deal, we always get someone crapping on single hose due to the warm air vacuum, CO2 poisoning, etc, whatever it might be.

While all this might be true, this is fine for my small apartment. I'm not looking to drop major cash on a dual hose, and my apartment can't fit a window unit. Plus, the wifi feature seems nice as other portables at this price don't usually offer that.

Don't be scared off if this seems like it would work for you, I've been looking at portable AC deals and this is one of the better deals I've seen recently.

I bought 1.

Where did you read about energy consumption? This doesn't mention to be an inverter AC, so I assume it would take more energy to run.

What is the Energy Star rating of the 12K window unit? They hide, so it can't be great.

You're halfway through summer and need the A/C now?

If you buy in April or August you get way better deals.

Some people have broken AC. My neighbor has a broken one last week. Still cheaper than get HVAC guy come to fix your AC now

You're saying we should wait a week? Sure.
August and September are the hottest months in SoCal.
