The second model(WUH721414ALE6L1) is the one WITHOUT the feature of power disable(3rd pin in SATA). In some motherboard and external enclosure, the drive might not start if the drive have power disable 3pin feature(the first model). The fix is quick but if you prefer fewer surprises(like drive unable to power on), you might want to take the second model(WUH721414ALE6L1).
If you're gonna rag on the drives, at least get your info right. Hitachi's were never DeathStars. You're thinking of the old IBM DeskStars which were, specifically, 75GB drives. In the wake of that disaster, IBM sold their disk business off to Hitachi, which never experienced the exploding platter issue that the "deathstars" were notorious for. Regardless, these aren't even Deskstar drives, they are enterprise grade Ultrastar drives. And in addition, that was over 20 years ago, get over it.
The Power Disable feature isn't the only difference. The WUH721414ALE6L1 is also a Self-Encrypting Drive (SED), not that most people will care.

I can't say for certain but I don't think many USB docks supply 3.3V, so it's unlikely to be a problem. I'd be more concerned about whether an adapter of that age will support this drive. I've seen some SATA-USB bridges that don't play well with these big drives.

I'm only half joking when I say, if you don't know the answers to these questions, you shouldn't be fooling with RAID and if you do know the answers, you'll know better than to mess with it. My more serious answer is, RAID isn't something that should be undertaken lightly. There can be serious drawbacks that are not always obvious. You should do some serious research before messing with it.

The E6L1.

This has been answered multiple times already.

WUH721414ALE6L1 - Self-Encrypting Drive and does NOT have the Power Disable feature (thus more likely to be compatible).

WUH721414ALE604 - Base model (no encryption) and DOES have the Power Disable feature.

Anyone know what I am missing? I received mine and installed it to replace a 6TB WD Red. IT does not show up in the Disk Management in Windows 10. I tried rebooting, rescanning. I have never had this issue before. Is there something special about these that I need to do another step first?
Try hooking up with a molex adapter and make sure its spinning up.

I bought their 18TB variant just two weeks ago for $199.99 and so far very happy with their packaging and the drive overall. Comparing to 6-8TB WD Red drives, these are much faster, a bit louder (makes thump noises while seeking/writing), but they don't run as hot (maybe 2-3 deg C lower). These are datacenter drives after all. Wish this deal came sooner. Would have snatched two 14TB instead. This is a great deal price-to-storage ratio.
Yes, I noticed that too! They thump and vibrate hard every few seconds.

My QNAP NAS would not accept the WUH721414ALE6L1 I put in. It gives a "Read I/O error, Unrecovered read error." It also complains that this disk's health is bad. This is new to me and I wonder if this is related to SED or is this drive bad? I put a similar recertified 14TB WUH721414ALN6L4 drive into the NAS and it accepted it immediately.

For this WUH721414ALE6L1 , I ran through the long test using Seagate's software in Windows and it came back in good health after 24 hours of testing. Has anyone run into a similar issue? Should I RMA it?
